About the Role

This FM3 supervises the Carpentry/Housekeeping Division of Structural Maintenance. The team is responsible for a wide array of duties including trash removal, building repairs, locks, press conference and event setups, woodworking, rehab projects around the airport and is known for its world-class event setups and productions, woodworking, and many other skillsets. As such, the team seeks an energetic candidate with an eye for detail and good workmanship interested in leading an experienced team of various trades including carpenters, buildings & grounds attendants, as well as general maintainers.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the Chief Maintenance Supervisor (FM-6), the selected candidate will supervise the Carpentry/Housekeeping Unit. He/she will be responsible for planning, implementing, directing, scheduling, and coordinating the work of semi-skilled and entry-level structural crafts persons.

• The selected candidate will be responsible for monitoring their performance, follow up and ensure all work is completed safely within Agency Rules and Regulations and accepted trade procedures, as well as administer provisions for the labor agreements and sick absence control policies.

• The successful candidate will initiate and provide total administrative support to his/her section including but not limited to scheduling of time off, initiating employee discipline, identifying, training and developmental needs, budget preparation and control and contract administration.

Additional Information

• The selected candidate is required to participate in the Airport Snow Removal Program and must be able to respond to other emergency activities on a 24-hour/7- day-a-week basis, and must be available to work any shift necessary, including weekends and holidays and work overtime as a regular function of the job.

• The successful candidate must be able to pass fingerprint-based Criminal History Record Check as mandated by 49 CFR 1542 and will be required to obtain and maintain an airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) ID CARD with Airfield Driving Privileges.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience.

• Must possess a valid driver's license.

• High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.

• All applicants that meet the above qualifications and have been selected for an interview, must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test prior. This test assesses supervisory skills and will be administered virtually.

Desired Qualifications

• Ability to work effectively with work groups inside and outside the Port Authority and with other agencies, tenants, passengers and the public.

• Ability to instill safe work habits.

• Ability to work independently and display initiative, good judgment and decisiveness.

• Strong knowledge of the Building Trades Unit, Transport Workers Union, and IOUE Union contract agreements.

• Ability to coordinate work with other craft groups and to organize several jobs simultaneously.

• Ability to supervise the work of subordinates and train new employees.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Good organizational, managerial and leadership skills.

• Knowledge of facility snow removal practices.

• Ability to work flexible hours during snow emergencies.

• Ability to review all incoming maintenance work, prioritize and implement it.

• Must have knowledge of FAR 139 Regulations regarding the maintenance airfield operations.

• Experience as lead mechanic at a journey level position.

• Developed computer skills and experience using Maximo.
