The Opportunity
 We are looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Finance Team as part of our financial services business in Luxembourg.
As part of the global expansion of the Maples Group’s financial services offering, our Luxembourg office opened its doors in 2007. Located in Cloche d'Or, a commitment to service excellence and investment in our people quickly established Luxembourg as a regional hub where our 80+ teammates deliver the best-in-class solutions to clients worldwide alongside our Maples and Calder (legal services) colleagues
As part of our Luxembourg team you will be performing below key duties:
Key duties:
The Financial Accountant is responsible for assisting the Finance Manager with the smooth running of the office, working with all levels of management and, where applicable, the Chief Financial Officer.  This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Core role
  • assisting with compiling information necessary for monthly management accounts and year-end financial statements
  • monthly analysis of key expense accounts and preparation of cash flows
  • preparing and reviewing bank and other balance sheet reconciliations as required
  • preparing monthly IT, HR, Operation and Marketing analysis as part of the month end process
  • preparing entity financial statements at year end
  • assisting with preparing audit requests from the external auditors
  • developing a high level of understanding of the financial reporting and all ancillary systems
  • assisting with the preparation of annual budgets and ensuring that the corporate financial information supports meaningful analysis and consistent accounting
  • preparation of intercompany AR and AP and liaising with other Maples offices to clear all intercompany balances
  • assisting with the payable and expense processes
  • monitoring group inboxes and responding to queries in accordance with policies and procedures and in a timely manner
  • liaising with vendors where necessary on invoice queries
  • liaising with the business on client queries, recording client disbursements and the collection of cheques
  • preparing and filing VAT and Tax returns on a periodic basis (where applicable)
  • completing non-routine analysis of specific accounts as requested from time to time
Training and Development
  • assisting with training junior members of local finance team and providing support to the finance teams globally where necessary
  • demonstrating a commitment to acquiring new capabilities, constantly striving to improve performance
  • proactively seeking out and taking advantage of training and development opportunities
Risk Management
  • acting in accordance with legal, regulatory and internal risk management requirements, including complying with policies and procedures
  • reporting business issues to the Finance Manager
Business Management
  • delivering reports on time, and to the Finance Manager’s full satisfaction
  • being aware of the sensitivity of information and treating it appropriately
  • demonstrating a high productivity level in work through time and cost control
  • ad-hoc projects, including reporting, as required
Requirements:
In addition to indisputably high ethical standards and autonomy, the ideal candidate possesses the following:
Education
  • University Degree in Accounting or any other relevant qualification.
Experience required
  • 2 to 3 years of experience ideally gained in finance services, Fiduciary, Audit firm or any similar business.
  • Lux GAAP and/or IFRS would be considered desirable
Soft skills
  • Team player and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient communication skills
Languages
  • fluent in English;
  • Additional language would be considered as an advantage.
