We are currently hiring for Underwriting Data Analyst. This position provides a unique opportunity to apply both actuarial analytical skills as well as develop underwriting acumen with the potential to move over time to a specific underwriting role or an actuarial role. This position works closely with the Y-Risk underwriting team developing the pricing for new and renewal business across all lines including Commercial General Liability, Commercial Auto, and Inland Marine. Also provides pricing model support for Y-Pro Tech (Cyber and Tech E&O). Active participant in Diamond Table underwriting meetings evaluating opportunities and participating in underwriting/pricing decisions.
In this position, you will be involved with monthly and quarterly results monitoring including developing claim count expectations for larger accounts and providing projections for actual vs expected monitoring. You will have the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of Y-Risk, the markets it serves, and the various pricing approaches. This position provides the opportunity to work on new initiatives including the Connected Customer, working with our data engineer on automated data reporting, automated audit calculations, and data visualization around exposure information and actual vs. expected tracking.
Responsibilities:
- Pricing support along with other actuary including updating and maintaining pricing models/tools
- Work with the data engineer on monthly reporting of audit data and account managers in establishing audit worksheets for smooth processing of monthly audit premiums
- Active participant in the daily Diamond Table underwriting meetings
- Develop innovative and novel solutions to new account opportunities, look for opportunities to further automate and revamp pricing process, and explore other data sources to supplement pricing analysis
- Assist on larger accounts that will rely more on HIG large account pricing tools and work with data science team to explore additional pricing insights
- Work with underwriting on developing pricing for product expansion
- Create rate filings as needed and work with HIG filing area to get rating plans filed and approved
- Support annual reinsurance renewal submission
- Participate in quarterly results analysis
- Potential to work on underwriting and pricing of new emerging risks and technologies creating innovative approaches to evaluating and pricing opportunities
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of prior actuarial analyst experience, insurance preferred
- Sound decision-making and analytical skills
- Some familiarity with account underwriting process.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in conveying technical results and influence decisions
- Attention to detail and manages priorities well (often rapidly changing priorities)
- Programming experience in R and/or Python a plus
- Predictive modeling/data science experience a plus
- Demonstrates leadership qualities, entrepreneurial spirit, and is achievement oriented
- Intellectual curiosity with ability to develop creative problem-solving acumen and potential to build an innovative mindset
- Sound time management skills with the ability to be adaptable to manage and prioritize dynamic workflow
- Computer savvy- experience with MS office suite
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Unionville, CT office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Candidates who do not live near an office may be considered for a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise. Candidates with hybrid reporting to the Unionville, CT office are highly preferred.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$70,960 - $106,440
