The Enterprise Database Management team at The Hartford is seeking a highly motivated, results-driven Senior IT Engineer with deep expertise in Oracle, Postgres Database engineering across AIX, Linux, and Exadata platforms, supporting both on-premises and cloud-based environments.
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain Oracle 19c OLTP and Data Warehouse databases and Postgres on-prem and in-cloud databases that power critical business applications.
- Collaborate with application teams to architect scalable, secure, and high-performing database solutions aligned with enterprise standards.
- Partner with the Cloud Engineering team to lead database migrations to AWS, ensuring seamless transitions and minimal disruption.
- Apply your knowledge of AWS cloud services, with a preference for experience in Oracle and PostgreSQL deployments.
- Leverage automation tools such as Ansible, Python, and Terraform to streamline infrastructure provisioning and database operations.

Major Responsibilities
- Drive design, creation, and management of Oracle databases running on Oracle 19c environments on Exadata, LINUX, AIX with features for data compression, partitioning, RAC, RMAN, Data Guard
- Drive design, creation, and management of Oracle databases running on Oracle 19c environments on Aurora Postgres, Oracle RDS and Oracle Databases on Exadata in AWS.
- Participate in design, development, and implementation of database architecture and database solutions for "Speed-to-Market" Agile projects underway.
- Perform tuning with expertise on Oracle performance analysis tools such as ASH and AWR along with SQL Plan Baselines, SQL Profiles
- Master the latest DB features and apply them to provide a measurable value on applications.
- Perform analysis and end-to-end execution from roadmap to implementation of database consolidations, migrations, conversions, and upgrades.
- Work to reduce complexity and cost in database environments through analysis, simplification, and automation using Ansible, Python, terraform or other tools.
- Conduct Oracle database configuration reviews, audits, and troubleshooting on version 19c for all platforms supported by Oracle.
- Control and monitor user access to databases and maintain database security.
- Manage capacity planning and forecasting for various platforms.
- Facilitate databases migration from an on-prem system to the Cloud.
- Maintain documentation of systems and standard operating policies and procedures
- Collaborate and participate in application release planning and implementation.
- Work with HIG onshore and offshore database partners to ensure availability, performance, quality, and Service Level Agreement specifications.
- Educate and influence stakeholders to promote an understanding of the environments, increase simplification, risk management, and promote reuse and innovation.
- The ability to learn fast on the job by partnering with senior resources
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline
- Requires at least 5 plus years of experience with implementations, upgrades, conversions, and consolidation projects with Oracle databases.
- Solid knowledge and experience of Oracle 19c and technical database concepts, including tuning databases, migrations, and backup/recovery techniques.
- Proficiency in Exadata Database Machine architecture and Oracle Exadata System Software
- Knowledge and experience in AWS
- Hands-on cloud migration experience is preferred.
- Postgres Database administration is preferred.
- General understanding of automation tools, such as Ansible, Python, terraform for IAC.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
This is a hybrid role based in Hartford, CT, with an expectation of in-office presence three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Our flexible work model supports a culture of innovation, inclusion, and performance.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$115,760 - $173,640
