The Manager of SQL Server Chapter will lead the day-to-day operations for all aspects of our SQL Server databases, ensuring availability, stability, security, currency, and performance. They will be responsible for managing a team of engineers who design, implement, and maintain our SQL Server databases in hybrid cloud . The manager will have end-to-end oversight and accountability of the SQL Server product, engineering and operations as well as ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, they will collaborate with other departments to integrate technology solutions into business processes and contribute to strategic planning initiatives related to IT strategy
This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Responsibilities:
- Manage daily operations and provide technical support to the team.
- Monitor performance, identify potential issues, and implement corrective measures when necessary.
- Ensure the security and integrity of data by implementing appropriate security protocols and procedures.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop long-term plans for the organization's technological advancement.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems in a timely manner.
- Conduct regular audits to assess the effectiveness of our security controls and propose improvements.
- Enable high degree of automation to reduce toil and improve speed to market and recovery from failure
- Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in the field of information technology.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior members of the team.
- Lead by example, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Database technologies
- Minimum five years of progressive leadership experience in IT.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive technology initiatives aligned with business goals.
- Oversee the design and optimization of enterprise-scale SQL database solutions, including schema architecture, performance tuning, and complex queries and stored procedures.
- Proven experience overseeing enterprise-level database and infrastructure strategies.
- Strong understanding of virtualization and cloud technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere, AWS, Azure) from a governance and planning perspective.
- Ability to guide teams leveraging scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) to improve operational efficiency.
- Managing large-scale IT projects, including budgeting, resource planning, and stakeholder communication.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a focus on risk management and continuous improvement.
- Confident decision-maker with the ability to operate independently in high-pressure environments.
Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$136,800 - $205,200
