Lead the delivery of digital and transformational change across Hartford's International IT portfolio by managing cross-functional Agile teams. Drive the successful implementation of high-quality software solutions, support strategic growth initiatives, and embed Agile practices to enhance delivery efficiency and business value.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support program delivery by coordinating processes, tracking progress, resolving issues, managing risks, and driving continuous improvement.

  • Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders such as the Agile Product Manager, Product Owners, Business Heads, US/UK IT leadership and US execution teams.
  • Foster strong external partnerships to bring in the latest research, data, and tools that advance Agile maturity at The Hartford, with a particular focus on enabling built-in quality practices.
  • Promote and guide Agile best practices at The Hartford, including backlog management, metrics, and key Agile concepts like epics and features.
  • Facilitate the Agile processes at the program level, including Program Increment (PI) planning, scrum of scrums and solution demos.
  • Establish and communicate the Iterations and PIs cadence with the Business Roadmap.
  • Help manage risks and dependencies, ensuring alignment between strategy and execution.
  • Facilitate the management and prioritization of all work and ensure alignment to the strategic IT investment roadmap.
  • Collaborate with the appropriate individuals to translate business strategy into technology strategy and ensure that capabilities required by the business are enabled.
  • Maintain scorecards and productivity metrics consistent with Agile governance standards to promote iterative and continuous improvement.
  • Foster communication and collaboration between Agile teams within the Agile Release Train (ART) and all appropriate stakeholders.
  • Manage the program backlog that feeds work to the ART and remove barriers and impediments to ART effectiveness.
  • Align working and reporting practices with US counterparts to embed mature Agile practices.
  • Ensure the Agile teams have the right skills, ratio of employee to vendor, and onshore to offshore balance to execute efficiently.
  • Track and communicate key ART metrics, including budgets, timeframes, impediments to execution progress and business value delivery.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership to define tolerable risk levels and manage/mitigate ART risks and dependencies.
  • Report planning results and epic status to senior management, business owners, product owners and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure all teams on the ART adhere to established governance models.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop cross-functional Agile teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify development opportunities to enhance team capabilities and career growth.

Qualifications and Capabilities

  • Ability to lead and motivate teams, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and build strong relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and build consensus.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex technical and organisational issues.
  • Ability to analyse data, track performance, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Working knowledge of Scaled Agile framework (SAFe) as well as Scrum and Kanban.
  • Working knowledge of software development processes and procedures to understand team needs; includes fundamentals of iterative and incremental development.
  • Working knowledge of Agile techniques: User Stories, Continuous Integration, Test-driven Development, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Burn-down Metrics, Velocity etc.

Experience

  • Relevant experience as an IT Delivery Manager or a Release Train Engineer.
  • Relevant experience in a leadership role managing direct line reports.
  • Relevant London Market Insurance experience. Insurtech market knowledge is desirable.
  • In one or more areas of the software development lifecycle - as developer, tester, business analyst, product owner, project manager, etc..
  • Scaled Agile frameworks using Scrum or Kanban. Experience using Agile toolsets such as Rally or JIRA.
  • Professional Scrum Master (PSM1+) and/or SAFe Certified Scrum Master (SSM) is desirable.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality software products on time and within budget.
