We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Director of Software Engineering to lead the next wave of intelligent enterprise integration and developer productivity within our Middle and Large Business segment. This role is ideal for a dynamic technical leader who thrives at the intersection of AI innovation, system architecture, and engineering excellence.

You will drive the design and implementation of cutting-edge AI-augmented integration solutions, leveraging technologies such as agentic systems, knowledge graphs, and developer tools like copilots, Amazon Q, Cursor to transform how we build, connect, and scale intelligent business applications. With a strong engineering mindset, you'll lead by example-contributing code, mentoring high-performing teams, and shaping the future of AI-driven software development.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead product development teams through design, build and release of Agentic Applications.
  • Ensure Application Functional and Non-Functional requirements are met during implementation phase.
  • Ensure business requirements are clearly articulated into technical specifications.
  • Architect and lead enterprise-grade integration with Gen AI platforms like Vertex or similar platforms such as AWS bedrock or Azure AI.
  • Champion the adoption of agentic AI systems, knowledge graphs, and CHOP (Chat-Oriented Programming) to accelerate development velocity.
  • Build and mentor high-impact engineering teams focused on innovation, quality, and delivery.
  • Drive the implementation of MLB platform using Gen AI.
  • Define and execute technical strategies aligned with business outcomes and digital transformation goals.
  • Oversee complex integration projects across cloud-native environments (AWS preferred).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, data science, and business stakeholders to deliver intelligent, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in engineering leadership roles.
  • Proven hands-on experience levering Agentic frameworks like Langchain/Langraph/Google ADK to build agentic applications in prod environment.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise integration patterns, workflow orchestration, and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong coding skills in modern languages (e.g., Python, TypeScript, Java) and familiarity with AI frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (especially AWS or GCP) and modern DevOps practices.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$166,560 - $249,840
