Consultant Claims Bond

Experienced surety claim handler wanted to join 6th largest writer of surety bonds in North America. The position requires the ability to independently conduct a legal investigation and coordination of financial and construction services for moderate to highly complex claims on Hartford bonds to comply with all statutory and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate payment and performance claims on construction bonds including recommendation of mitigation strategy, reporting to management and implementation of agreed strategy
  • Communicate with principals, obligees, claimants and others to analyze and resolve claims
  • Review proofs of loss and supporting documentation on commercial claims
  • Set accurate reserves, prepare Large Loss Memos and communicate progress of claim with bond management
  • Select and amend as necessary appropriate form documents to implement mitigation strategy including takeover agreements, completion contracts, and default documents from the principal and salvage agreements
  • Refer litigation matters and actively manage outside litigation to achieve the most cost effective result
  • Provides active management of outside legal, accounting, construction or other professional resources to achieve best claim outcomes, including coordination with in-house professionals on scope design budgeting and monitoring work product
  • Marshal assets and pursue salvage and subrogation opportunities
  • Mentor less experienced claim handlers
  • Travel up to 15%

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Juris Doctorate Required
  • Minimum of 8 years surety claim experience

Additional Information:

This role can be Hybrid or Remote as aligned with the Hartford's Return to Office initiative. If you live near a Hartford office location, you will work in office at least 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). If you are not near an office, this role will be 100% Remote, with the expectation of occasional in-office presence as business needs dictate.

As a condition of your employment, you must obtain and maintain a State Adjuster's License to process Property & Casualty Insurance Claims in the states supported by your office. Continued employment with The Hartford is contingent upon the successful passage of the Licensing exam(s) within 30 business days from the completion of the licensing training.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$122,320- $183,480

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
