The Consultant Actuarial position is primarily responsible for assisting the Reinsurance and Runoff Reserving Team in the analysis of latent liability exposures, emerging torts, asbestos and environmental (A&E) accounts, and potentially uncollectible reinsurance.

This is an individual contributor role, with opportunities to increase efficiency and effectiveness of reserving practices within the team as well as across the reserving department. The position requires strong communication skills, with emphasis on discussing individual accounts with the claim and legal teams and opportunities to present findings to senior claim, legal, and actuarial management.

The nature of the role varies from leading D&T reviews, projecting Assumed Asbestos reserves, managing and driving forward the annual Asbestos study and maintaining annual Actuarial Reports.

  • In-depth understanding of Asbestos and Environmental Exposures
  • Communicate with Claims, Legal, and others to help to develop a reserve range for individual, large, unique exposures
  • Projecting portions of the asbestos and environmental ("A&E") reserves
  • Updating and maintaining Actuarial Reports
  • Managing Asbestos processes and reports
  • Strong project management skills

Experience & Skills:

  • 5+ years of Asbestos & Environmental experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Ability to develop effective business partnerships
  • Strong Excel skills required
  • Excellent communication skills - both oral and written, formal and informal; effective at communicating actuarial issues to non-actuarial partners.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$70,960 - $106,440
