Summary Description

We are looking for an experienced Catastrophe Risk Modeler with demonstrated domain expertise who can execute complex production modeling tasks independently. This role is an individual contributor in the Production Catastrophe Modeling Team that is part of the Enterprise Risk Management department. The modeling team is responsible for monthly and quarterly enterprise portfolio runs of catastrophe models that produce catastrophe risk analytics for a range of ERM, capital risk modeling, reinsurance, reporting, and pricing uses.

The level of seniority will be adjusted to match the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute processes for input of exposure data feeds, execution of production catastrophe model runs, and post-processing/extraction of model results. The processes include evaluation and documentation of auditable metrics on data quality and accuracy of model inputs and outputs. All processes are required to meet The Hartford's internal reporting requirements that adhere to industry best practices standards
  • Conduct ad hoc modeling runs and data analyses to support account modeling, catastrophe response activities, and exposure data and model evaluation projects
  • Conduct peer reviews and trouble-shooting investigations
  • Provide guidance and model/coding training to early career staff

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in STEM, Economics or Actuarial Science and a demonstrated aptitude for coding
  • 3+ years of experience with production catastrophe modeling required
  • Verisk-EES (AIR) Touchstone modeling experience preferred, experience of working with more than one commonly used Catastrophe Model platforms as well as supplemental modeling software like MetaRisk desirable
  • Expertise in SQL coding required, proficiency with other coding languages highly desirable

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$105,680 - $158,520
