Assistant Director, Customer Research - Middle & Large Business, Global Specialty, and Innovation & Risk Services

About the Role
As the Assistant Director of Customer Research, you will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of our Middle & Large Business, Global Specialty, and Innovation & Risk Services organizations. Partnering with senior leaders and our 11-member Enterprise Customer Research team, you will help inform our products, services, value propositions, and customer experiences by delivering actionable voice-of-customer insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, design, and execute end-to-end primary research projects focused on insurance buyers and brokers using qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Analyze and synthesize research findings to uncover clear, compelling, and business-relevant insights.
- Translate research into strategic recommendations that inform product, service, marketing, and experience decisions.
- Present findings to stakeholders across levels, including executive leadership.
- Serve as a liaison between internal stakeholders, external vendors, and the customer research team.
- Champion a customer-centric mindset, using insights to drive innovation and enhance experiences across the customer journey.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in primary marketing research (client or vendor side), ideally in financial services, insurance, or B2B environments.
- Proven ability to independently lead research projects from design/methodology selection and sample construct through instrument design, analysis and compelling data-driven storytelling.
- Solid understanding of the role traditional and evolving marketing research plays in strategic decision-making.
- Creative, curious and analytical thinker with excellent project management, prioritization, and multitasking skills; takes ownership of work product and seeks to develop subject matter expertise.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills; adept at helping stakeholders translate insights to action and synthesizing learnings across various studies.
- Proficiency with research tools such as Qualtrics, SPSS, or similar platforms.
- Collaborative team player with strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor's degree required.
Work Arrangement
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Phoenix, AZ, Naperville, IL) will have the expectation of working in an office three days per week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$100,800 - $151,200
