Job Description

The Office of the Child Advocate (OCA) is an independent executive branch agency with oversight and ombudsperson responsibilities, established by the Massachusetts Legislature in 2008. The OCA's mission is to ensure that children receive appropriate, timely, and quality state services, with a particular focus on ensuring that the Commonwealth's most vulnerable and at-risk children can thrive. Through collaboration with public and private stakeholders, the OCA identifies gaps in state services and recommends improvements in policy, practice, regulation and/or law. The Center on Child Wellbeing & Trauma at the OCA supports state agencies and their community-based partners in their journey towards becoming trauma-informed and responsive. CCWT also provides in depth technical assistance on how to make policies, programs, and interactions more trauma-responsive to support child wellbeing. Under the general direction of the Training Manager, the Training Specialist II provides curriculum development, materials, and facilitation to support state agencies in becoming more trauma informed and responsive. This role supports consultation, training, coaching, and implementation support tailored to address specific gaps in being trauma responsive.

Please note that this job requires an individual to work in-person at the OCA's Boston office 1-2 days per week.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops curriculum for and conducts training programs for state employees and partners using various formats including group discussion, scenarios and role play, videos, and direct instruction
  • Evaluates the efficacy of training materials and make recommendations for improvement
  • Maintains knowledge of latest trends and best practices in adult learning, training, facilitation, and curriculum design
  • Independently conducts research to inform training and curriculum development
  • Provides coaching & training support to Technical Assistance Specialist I.
  • Develops training, technical assistance, and coaching curricula for state agencies and providers.
  • Creates supplementary materials that align with CCWT's mission and vision to support state systems in their transition towards becoming trauma-responsive.
  • Provides project management support, including scheduling debriefs, effective coordination and sharing of evaluations to inform project feedback and improvements, and proactive tracking and management of project deadlines to ensure deliverables are met.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Proven ability to design curriculum for adults.
  • Experience working with state agencies and managing and supporting partner organization expectations.
  • Knowledge of childhood trauma/ACES/positive childhood experiences and resilience
  • Ability to make persuasive presentations to various interdisciplinary audiences.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and/or other software.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in relevant field (public policy, public administration, education, etc.).

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education in public policy, human services, or social work.
  • Applicants must have at least:
    • (A) five (5) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, experience in public policy, human services, or social work, of which
    • (B) at least two (2) years must have been in a project management and at least 3 years in curriculum design experience, or
    • (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

Substitutions:

  • A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required (A) experience.
  • A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required (A) experience.
