Bureau/Division Overview

The mission of the Department of Revenue's Child Support Enforcement division is to protect the economic well-being of the Commonwealth's children by enforcing the financial responsibilities of parenthood. Effective child support enforcement is an essential part of the larger effort by the Commonwealth and the federal government to promote families' economic self-sufficiency.

Position Summary

The intern will have a dual role in the Customer Service Bureau. CSB experiences a high volume of credit card calls for customers to pay their child support. This will be the primary role for at least 2 days per week. The other days will be spent with the Employer Services group working on data clean-up and contacting employers for the status of child support payments. Intern will also have the opportunity to learn operations in CSB Case Maintenance and Central Registry.

Core Responsibilities

• Ability to work in a confidential manner.

• Ability to work remotely.

• Ability to trouble shoot technical issues.

• Ability to learn system functionality to complete payments.

• Ability to properly handle a customer service inquiry via a telephony solution.

• Must be detailed orientated.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior Customer Service experience.

• Demonstrated interest in Social Services or Criminal Justice.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to work on a team or as an individual.

• Ability to multi-task from a technical perspective.

As part of the Future of Work Initiative, the agency is adopting a hybrid work model. Hybrid work is a mix of in-office work and telework. This position will work remotely some days and in-person on other days.

An external candidate recommended for a position with the Department of Revenue will be subject to a background check that includes checks for: state and federal tax compliance; child support compliance; education verification; Massachusetts CORI checks; criminal background checks in state(s) of current and previous residence/employment; validation of eligibility to work in the United States; and national fingerprint- based criminal background checks.
