Job Description:
The Senior Communications Manager is a key member of the Marketing and Communications team at Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt), reporting to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer (CMCO). This role serves as a lead content creator and strategist, responsible for developing, managing, and executing high-impact storytelling and internal communications that advance MassArt's mission as a public college of art and design. The Senior Communications Manager works collaboratively to help shape how the College communicates with its diverse audiences students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community across digital, print, and social media platforms, playing a central role in highlighting the energy and impact of the MassArt community.
Bargaining Unit: Association of Professional Administrators (APA)
Salary Range: $85,000.00 to $95,000.00 annually
Key Responsibilities
- Content Creation & Storytelling:
- Serve as a lead writer, editor, and content creator for College-wide communications across digital, print, and social media channels.
- Lead the planning, writing, editing, and publishing of engaging stories that reflect the vibrancy, diversity, and impact of the MassArt community.
- Manage and produce MassArt newsletters and other campus-wide storytelling initiatives.
- Works with CMCO to develop PR strategy and works with local and national outlets to share MassArt's story.
Internal Communications:
- Develop and execute internal communications for the campus community in collaboration with MarCom colleagues and campus partners.
- Serve as the primary contact and content manager for MassArt's internal platforms, including MassArt Connect, ensuring information is current, accurate, and accessible.
- Write and edit content for campus emails, news articles, blog posts, and community announcements.
Editorial Management:
- Own the editorial calendar, overseeing content planning and coordinating with departments to ensure timely, relevant, and consistent messaging across platforms.
- Collaborate with departments and offices to surface and share stories that align with institutional goals and priorities.
Social Media Strategy:
- Oversee the College's social media strategy and execution, in close partnership with MarCom team members. Works closely with the Enrollment Marketing Manager to develop compelling content specific to prospective students and their families.
- Contribute to the development of creative social media content that showcases MassArt's programs, people, and events.
Collaboration & Coordination:
- Coordinate with departments and units across the College to gather information, align messaging, and deliver high-quality content to all audiences.
- Provide guidance and support to colleagues on communications best practices, voice, and tone.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certification a plus.
- 5 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or content strategy, preferably in higher education or the arts/design sector.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a demonstrated ability to adapt content for different audiences and channels.
- Experience managing editorial calendars and leading content projects from concept to completion.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Familiarity with internal communications platforms, digital content management systems, and social media best practices.
- Collaborative and proactive with a passion for the arts, education, and creative communities.
- Writing samples will be required.
