General Summary
The Department of Mental Health, Quality Improvement Department at Tewksbury Hospital is seeking an experienced and skilled Registered Nurse to perform a variety of Quality Improvement functions as well as supporting the Psychiatric Units as a member of various Hospital-wide and Psychiatric Services Committees and Teams.
Please note: This position is 40 hours per week, 7:00am-3:30pm, Days off Saturday/Sunday
Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Participates in the following Hospital and/or Psychiatric Services Committees/meetings on a regular basis:
- Quality Patient Safety (QPS)
- Risk Management Team (RMT) (chair)
- DPH Information Management Committee
- DPH Falls Committee
- DPH Patient Safety Committee
- DPH Employee Safety Committee
- FSA Committee (Joint Commission Prep team)
o Covers other Committees as requested to back-up other QI staff.
o Performs key facilitation, leadership, or clinical role in these committees.
- Coordinates all Risk Management Activities for the Psychiatric Services Units supporting the Psychiatric Services Executive Staff in proactively addressing all potential high-risk occurrences, including but not limited to medication errors, falls and self-injurious behaviors resulting in serious injury.
- Works with Clinical Nurse specialist in reviewing and analyzing falls in the psychiatric units. Presents findings to the Hospital Fall committee and follow up with recommendations for safety protocols.
- Participate in data analysis of quality improvement data and develop quarterly and annual QI reports, graphs and executive summaries in collaboration with the PI Committee and the Director of QI.
- Assist the Psychiatric policy review and revisions process by maintaining a review system, adding policies up for review to monthly meeting agenda, ensuring timely completion of revisions of QI policies and procedures.
- Facilitates Risk Management Committee by reviewing all psychiatric services incidents, categorizing these incidents according to policy and preparing the Risk log, including all entries in the DMH SLS system.
- Follow up with unit staff on identified risk issues and reports to committee any corrective actions taken.
- Collaborates with nursing staff development in preparing and/or revising policies and/or procedures based on corrective actions request or root cause analysis recommendations.
- Key roles in JC survey preparation include consultation for QPS Committee and coordinating JC educational activities with DPH Quality Management Dept.
- Facilitate Performance Improvement activities as assigned.
- Conducts all Psychiatric Units chart review activities on all new admissions for all disciplines and generates reports to present to the PIC committee.
- Coordinates Departmental QI through provisions of additional consultation as requested.
- Utilizes Tableau or other sophisticated data mining software and systems to analyze data and produce required dashboards for the Psychiatric Units.
- Works with staff development & Psychiatric Nursing to identify staff training needs and areas for improvement as identified by the Risk Management team.
- Assists/Conducts 10-day fact finding or Administrative Reviews on patient complaints related to medical/medication issues.
- Other related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications
• 3-5 years Psychiatric Nursing experience Knowledge of the principles and practices of Nursing/Mental Health Nursing
• Proficient with Microsoft office, including Power Point presentations
• Ability to understand and apply the laws, regulations and rules of governing and certifying agencies
• Ability to receive written and oral instructions.
• Talent for communicating effectively in oral expression, writing clearly and concisely, and developing ideas in logical sequence.
• Ability to review observations and data, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
• Effectively participating in a multi-disciplinary treatment team.
• Given the population we serve, bilingual or multilingual fluency

Tewksbury Hospital operates a 370-bed facility and a campus of over 700 acres of land. Its patient care services are provided under the auspices of the Department of Public Health and Mental Health. Joint Commission accredited LTAC hospital that provides high quality, comprehensive treatment, care, and comfort to adults with chronic medical and mental illness. A full range of services are provided including 24/7 Nursing, Nurse Practitioners, Medicine as well as psychiatric and psychological services, a 6- bed dialysis unit, clinical laboratory, radiology, respiratory care, nutrition, speech/language, pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic recreation and arts, and pharmacy.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience. No substitutions will be allowed for the required (B) experience.
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES:Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
