The Dr. John C. Corrigan Mental Health Center is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals for the position of a Registered Nurse II who desires a rewarding career making a difference in the lives of individuals. Our ideal candidate for this position will work with and assist other professional staff in providing day-to-day direct care to individuals on a 16-bed secured inpatient unit with serious and persistent mental illness, including monitoring patient's behaviors, providing direct nursing care and patient teaching in regard to health and wellness, medication and illness management. The selected candidate will possess strong therapeutic interpersonal skills to encourage and motivate individuals in their recovery to work towards treatment goals.

Please Note: This position is 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will work from 2:45 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. with rotating weekends. The days off will be Week I: Sunday/Thursday and Week II: Tuesday/Saturday.
Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive):
- Provides direct nursing care to patients with severe and persistent symptoms of acute mental illness to ensure patients' health and safety needs are met utilizing the nursing process and following current standards of care.
- Assesses health status of patients, recording related health data, administering standard nursing treatments, evaluating patient's conditions and adjusting care in conjunction with other providers.
- Works with pharmacy to obtain, administer and document medications and treatments ordered for patients, evaluating patient for effectiveness and or adverse effects in ongoing communication with authorized prescriber.
- Participates in admission, discharge and transfer of patients as they occur to facilitate a smooth transition coordination and continuity of patient care.
- Completes all required admission nursing assessments and screenings within timeframes outlined in facility protocols and develops an initial nursing care plan to ensure that patient's acute health and safety nursing care needs are met.
- Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team to establish a comprehensive treatment plan with both person-centered short- and long-term goals through consultations with other staff and through an analysis of data and symptoms.
- Manages, supervises, and evaluates the nursing care provided by Mental Health Workers and Licensed Practical Nurses to maintain the health and safety of the patients, providing daily supervision and instruction.
- Administers medications and treatment orders as prescribed by an appropriate medical practitioner and document each patient's medication regime in both electronic and paper mediums, engaging proactively to prevent the possibility of medication errors.
- Monitors, reports and documents patient's behaviors and responses to current medication and treatment regiments.
- Educates and instructs clients/consumers in medication and health issues by facilitating 1:1 and group education and documenting accordingly in the patient's medical record.
- Participates in medical and psychiatric emergency responses, including the provision of first aid and CPR in accordance with current trainings and assists and participates in de-escalation and all approved forms of restraint per DMH regulations and facility protocols when needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (Portuguese, Spanish, Khmer)
- Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, behavioral or mood disturbances in an inpatient setting.
- Trained in de-escalation and nonviolent crisis intervention procedures.
- Experience working in facilities that are accredited and inspected by The Joint Commission, Department of Public Health, Board of Health, Department of Mental Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Working Conditions:
- While performing the duties of this position, incumbents work under stressful situations and under time pressures.
- Applicants may be exposed to verbal and/or physical confrontations and potentially dangerous environments.
- Incumbents will work nights, weekend days and holidays, and may work extended hours.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I . A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience .
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
*Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
