Job Description
The Massachusetts Veterans Home (MVH) at Holyoke is actively seeking a per-diem Physician (Physician II) to join their team!
In this role as a per diem Physician, you will provide general medical care to the veteran residents of MVH at Holyoke who are housed in our Long-Term Care Facility. This position works under the general supervision of the Medical Director, who assigns works, reviews performance and reports compliance with professional standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Provides responsible medical care in accordance with regulatory standards and guidelines.
- Provides appropriate history, examination, diagnostic formulation, and treatment, which may entail reviewing records, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, as well as judiciously prescribing medication.
- Provides comprehensive, responsible and timely medical care to all residents, documenting in a complete and accurate fashion in the resident record, evaluates residents' conditions, determines course of treatment, and advises on changes as indicated.
- Updates and counsels residents, health care proxies, and other relevant parties regarding medical course as appropriate; responds to questions or concerns as needed.
- Maintains professional clinical skills, knowledge, and standards through clinical practice.
- Supervises nurse practitioners by providing guidance and reviewing performance in compliance with professional standards.
- Supports educational needs of interdisciplinary team and other staff, including sharing medical knowledge and expertise as appropriate.
- Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team in effective and cooperative working relationships.
- Consults and communicates with specialty care and other clinical services as indicated.
- Provides daytime coverage for other clinicians as needed to provide comprehensive clinical care in their absence.
- Provides overnight and weekend coverage in accordance with the call schedule.
- Participates in process improvement activities relating to infection control, behavioral management and pharmacy/therapeutics to ensure compliance with current standards.
- Participates in pertinent continuing education programs and reviews pertinent medical literature to keep current with resident care practices and to maintain competencies.
- Completes and submits billing for encounters in an accurate and timely manner.
- Order pharmaceuticals, equipment and medical supplies.

REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed to practice in Massachusetts with the Board of Registration in Medicine.
Appropriate Massachusetts and DEA controlled substance registrations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least three (3) years of experience in a long-term care environment
Proficient understanding of the principles and practices of geriatric nursing, dementia, hospice and modern long-term care.
Capacity to maintain accurate records and exercise discrettion in handling confidential information.
Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of quality care, health and safety approach.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience as a registered physician.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Current and valid registration as a physician under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains an active, full physician's license with the Commonwealth Board of Registration in Medicine.
Appropriate Massachusetts and DEA controlled substance registrations.
