Occupational Therapist II
Job Description
Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is currently seeking a skilled and compassionate Occupational Therapist II to join our dedicated healthcare team. In this vital role, you'll provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for individuals facing a range of physical, cognitive, and psychosocial challenges. You'll also play a key part in program development and contribute to the growth of future professionals through student supervision.
Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30PM, Weekends Off
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
• Conduct comprehensive evaluations of adult and geriatric patients using established Occupational Therapy assessment protocols.
• Deliver individualized treatment plans in accordance with professional standards and physician directives, utilizing therapeutic equipment, modalities, and activities to restore function, alleviate pain, and prevent disability.
• Perform open and closed tracheostomy suctioning as needed during therapy sessions.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams through regular meetings and effective interdepartmental communication to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Actively participate in multidisciplinary staff and team meetings to support holistic treatment planning.
• Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs), students, and other personnel involved in direct patient care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
• Provide Occupational Therapy services to the Orthopedic Clinic twice weekly.
• Lead and participate in in-service training programs to support ongoing professional development and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications:
• Strong understanding of Occupational Therapy theory, principles, terminology, and best practices
• Proficiency in standardized evaluation methods used in Occupational Therapy
• Expertise in treatment techniques, procedures, and therapeutic interventions
• Solid foundation in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, neurology, orthopedics, and psychology as they relate to Occupational Therapy
• Familiarity with the types and appropriate use of equipment and materials in therapeutic settings
• Possession of a current and valid Occupational Therapist license issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and communicate effectively across diverse populations
• Proven competency in treating adult and geriatric patients with a range of therapeutic needs
• Awareness of current trends, challenges, and best practices in the field of Occupational Therapy
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary team environment
• Motivational approach to patient care and team leadership, fostering engagement and positive outcomes
About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:
Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital's services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity.
Located in the heart of Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients.
The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience as an occupational therapist.

Possession of a current and valid Occupational Therapist license issued by the Board of Allied Health Professions in accordance with Chapter 667 of the Acts of 1982.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range
