Job Description
The Military Division (Massachusetts National Guard) is seeking two professionals for the role of Laborer II. The selected candidates will provide support for Roads and Grounds maintenance of the Camp Edwards Army national guard installation.
These positions are located on Camp Edwards, Massachusetts Army National Guard Base.
The basic purpose of this work is to oversee and participate in the upkeep, maintenance, and repair facilities on Camp Edwards Massachusetts.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates light duty trucks, snowplows, sanders, street sweepers, tractor-drawn mowers, snow throwers, riding mowers, push mowers and other such equipment to maintain roadways and grounds.
- Uses assigned hand powered equipment and hand tools such as chainsaws, trimmers, leaf blowers, concrete saws, jack hammer, compactors and other such equipment.
- Transports bulk materials within the facility complex using equipment including, but not limited to trucks and trailers.
- Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment such as lubricating, fueling, cleaning and checking tire pressure, battery, oil, water and coolant levels, etc.
- Performs minor equipment repairs and mechanical adjustments and refers significant maintenance problems to the Roads & Grounds Supervisor.
- Maintains records and prepares reports on such matters as vehicle use, mileage, destinations, accidents, gas and other vehicle expenses, such as fuel, repairs, etc.
- Performs related duties such as loading and unloading furniture, equipment and supplies, mixing and applying materials such as sand, salt, gravel, concrete, etc.
- Uses proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Follows federal and state rules when storing, using, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards.
- Performs clean-up duties such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up tools and other property in the assigned area.

Qualifications
Desired Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles
- Knowledge of the principles and related construction activities.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures relative to groundskeeping equipment.
- Knowledge of the types and use of hand tools.
- Knowledge of the safety practices used for facility construction projects.
- Knowledge of the types and uses of materials and equipment used for facility construction projects
- Ability to clear snow (shovel) from walkways and roads and carry heavy items.
- Ability to work independently.
Special Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Required to obtain licenses on other equipment as appropriate

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least six months of full-time, or equivalent part- time experience in performing manual labor in connection with general construction or maintenance work.
