The Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) is seeking a part-time contracted Inventory Clerk for receiving and documenting incoming materials, updating inventory levels, adjusting shelved items accordingly, and maintaining the cleanliness and general upkeep of the warehouse inventory and related areas for the Massachusetts Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM) Library.The AIM Library is a statewide resource center distributing over 8,000 materials to over 3,000 students a year. It is focused on the mission of ensuring timely delivery of specialized instructional materials to support and improve the quality of education for public school students who are blind or visually impaired residing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This contracted position reports to the Director of the AIM Library and works in a warehouse located in Canton, MA.

The contracted position is in effect until June 30, 2026. The extension of this contracted position is contingent upon funding, availability and approval.
Duties and Responsibilities: (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Receives and documents incoming materials, verify quality, quantity specifications and reviews against packing slips and condition to requests
- Maintains inventory, tallies, updates and documents accurate inventory levels, and shelves items accordingly, reporting usage trends and issues to Director.
- Maintains the general upkeep and cleanliness of the AIM Library inventory and related space areas and for recycling appropriate materials
- Works independently and as a team member, effectively with attention to detail and the capacity to prioritize tasks appropriately
- Travels to other buildings to retrieve and/or drop off materials as assigned, assists consumers and ship carriers with loading and unloading.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to read, write and communicate professionally and effectively; establish and maintain professional working relationships with others
- Ability to recognize and understand product numbers and alpha/numeric codes
- Ability to perform simple math operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
- Ability to work independently, to use good judgement with attention to detail, and the capacity to prioritize tasks appropriately
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for periods of time, be able to lift 40 lbs., and work in an isolated area with exposure to dust/dirt/debris
- Ability to follow written and verbal job function instructions and the ability to record and maintain data and documents accurately
- Capacity to learn and apply information about AIM Library inventory materials and agency policies and procedures.
- Knowledge/experience with basic inventory, cataloging, shelving, housing, and stocking procedures
- Customer and vendor relations; team working experience
- Microsoft Office 365 computer/keyboard skills including Outlook, Word and Excel spreadsheets
Physical demands and Work Environment:
- Stand/walk continuously
- Lift up to 40 lbs.
- Moderate to low light levels
- Dust/dirt/debris in inventory/warehouse
- Seasonal Inclement Weather
- Keep inventory space clean in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements
Additional Information:
- Benefits are unavailable except for sick leave accruals.
- AIM Library hours are 7:30am to 3:30pm
- All employees will be paid on a biweekly basis and must have direct deposit.
- The salary for this position is $25 an hour.
Please note that pursuant to Massachusetts General laws, contracted employees are not paid for the twelve scheduled holidays, do not receive any paid vacation, personal leave benefits or contribute to the state retirement system or social security. As a state contracted employee, you must participate in direct deposit and contribute towards the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' state alternate retirement plan ("OBRA Plan").
