SRB:
The State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board oversees mosquito control in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including 11 regional programs. It establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure mosquito control programs are safe and effective.
POSITION TITLE: Field Technician
REPORTS TO: Crew Chief
DESCRIPTION: Work in all phases of mosquito control operations, including but not limited to water management, larviciding, and responding to citizen requests for service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Clear drainage ditch systems using shovel, rake, or other hand tools so that the water is free from debris.
- Operate vehicle in safe manner
- Remove blockages from culverts.
- Use sewer snake to unblock pipes.
- Use brush cutter and/or chain saw to brush areas under surveillance for mosquito development.
- Use hand operated or backpack sprayers to apply larvicides.
- Practice safe work habits and use of tools.
- Remember general layout of potential mosquito habitat in assigned work area.
- Recognize mosquito adults and larvae
- In absence of crew chief, responsible for entering daily work reports into GIS Applications as well as mapping ditches and pipes using GIS Applications to be used in annual reports and CRS reporting
- Continue education on mosquitoes and mosquito borne disease
- Respond to citizen requests in absence of Crew Chief
- Perform other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work independently, adapt to varying work situations and to deal tactfully and establish rapport with others. Ability to give oral and written instructions in a precise and understandable manner. Ability to maintain accurate records and assemble items of information according to established procedures. Possess a valid driver's license with clean driving record. Ability to obtain pesticide license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Required to stand, walk, use hands and finger dexterity to handle or operate tools or controls and reach with hands. Lifting or carrying weights of up to 50 pounds. Walk distance on uneven surface in boots.
Or any equivalent education, training, and work experience to perform the essential functions of the job.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to current Mass. Pesticide license holders.
Possession of additional licenses such as CDL A or B or hoisting engineer license is a plus but is not required.
If the applicant selected for this position does not have a current pesticide license, then he or she must pass a written examination and obtain the CORE pesticide license within 3 months of hire or employment may be terminated.
