Division of Insurance

The primary mission of the Division of Insurance (DOI) is to monitor the solvency of its licensees to promote a healthy, responsive and willing marketplace for consumers who purchase insurance products. Actuarial interns will support DOI staff involved in rate setting or rate oversight by various data analysis projects assigned to them.

You must be ready and willing to commit 2-4 days a week (Minimum 12-24 hours for Fall internship) or as per your supervisor and/or business need.

The internship program will run from approximately September 2025, through December 2025. Interviews will be held both in-person and/or virtually.

Must be currently enrolled in an associate's, bachelor's, or a higher degree program.

$18 - $21 an hour - Salary is compensable with work experience and education level.

DOI Health Care Access Internship Provides Experience in the Following:

  • Gain hands-on experience at the Executive Office of Economic Development
  • Participate in our intern orientation, technical training and development program designed to provide the tools needed to contribute efficiently.
  • Working under the direction of the health actuary gathering and analyzing insurance data from insurers.
  • Performing administrative duties around insurer rate increase requests.
  • Developing expertise in managing the various regulatory systems such as SERFF.
  • Learn directly from experienced associates, seniors, managers and partners with specialized experience and technical knowledge across numerous industries and services.
  • Build peer networks and strong work relationships while gaining valuable experience.
  • Demonstrate your performance and ability to join a government agency.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks, including filing, data entry, and scheduling.
  • Support the coordination and organization of healthcare-related events or programs.

Skills & Expertise:

  • Prefer candidates in school for actuary, mathematics, or related certifications.
  • Excellent collaboration and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have legal work authorization in the U.S.
