Overview:

The Supplier Diversity Office (SDO) is an agency within the Executive Office for Administration and Finance of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with a mission of serving diverse and small businesses and agencies of the Commonwealth.

On July 1, 2025, a new SDO program launched: Empowering Abilities in Contracting and Employment (EACE). This program encourages and supports disability-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses (DOBEs and SDVOBEs) in state procurement. The program also assists statewide contract vendors in workforce development, specifically when it comes to interviewing, hiring, promoting, and retaining individuals with disabilities.

The SDO's mission is to support small and diverse business participation in state contracting by:

  1. Certifying minority, women, veteran, service-disabled veteran, disability and LGBT-owned businesses, as well as small Massachusetts-based businesses.
  2. Connecting these companies with business opportunities and resources that enhance their marketability when bidding on public contracts; and
  3. Collaborating with executive agencies and public organizations to:
    1. Identify and remove barriers for diverse and small businesses; and
    2. Increase diverse and small business spending.


The SDO is seeking an intern to assist the Program Coordinator with data collection and communications to statewide contract vendors participating in EACE. While this intern will report directly to the EACE Program Coordinator, they will also work with the Director of Programs & Engagement and Programs & Engagement staff to coordinate events such as business resource fairs and online workshops.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

• Assist the EACE Program Coordinator in disseminating data collection requests and monthly engagement emails to statewide contract vendors participating in EACE.

• Research and communicate with potential agencies and non-profit partners who could act as a resource under EACE.

• Collaborate with all Programs & Engagement team members to execute events for SDO-certified businesses, specifically those for disability-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned entities (DOBE and SDVOBEs).

• Coordinate and attend internal and external meetings to gather event requirements.

• Manage administrative tasks related to event planning such as drafting invitations and tracking RSVPs.

• Other duties, as assigned by SDO's EACE Program Coordinator.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will:

• Be able to write clearly.

• Be comfortable communicating via telephone and email.

• Have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, presentation, and analytical skills and experience, especially related to demonstrating confidence and executive presence in public settings.

• Be extremely organized and able to work with deadlines.

• Be enthusiastic about diversity, equity, and inclusion and public service.

• Have experience with and passion for working with the disability and veteran communities; individuals with disabilities and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.

• Be customer-focused and have the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

• Be competent with common software applications, such as Microsoft Office.

• Have the ability to work from home for the majority of time, reporting to the SDO's office at 1 Ashburton Place, Boston as required.

Official Title: Contracted Interns

Primary Location: United States-Massachusetts-Boston-1 Ashburton Place

Schedule: 15 to 20 hours per week

Shift: Day

Hourly rate: up to $23 per hour

Start Date: anticipated for mid-September 2025

End Date: December 31, 2025
