Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinate Domestic Violence Intervention Project (DVIP) in collaboration with local police departments, dispatch centers, Crocker Communications Inc., and community victim advocacy programs. Position is a part-time position of 20 hours weekly.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILILTIES:
- Foster strong relations between police and advocates in the DVIP Partnership
- Make outreach visits to police departments and ensure open communication with community partners
- Participate in hiring of new DVIP Advocates with NELCWIT and BHN
- Train and supervise DVIP Advocates in collaboration with NELCWIT and BHN
- Assign shifts and create monthly on-call schedule to be communicated to all DVIP partners
- Provide secondary back-up for evening and weekend emergency call system
- Review daily call log from answering service and follow-up with Crocker and responding police and/or advocates on any calls needing attention
- Assign cell phones for each advocate and update list regularly with answering service
- Debrief advocates following difficult calls and instruct them in following DVIP protocols
- Provide direct service to victims of domestic and sexual violence including safety planning, information on lock changes and ongoing support for alarm recipients
- Identify high risk cases from advocate information sheets and make referrals to the high risk team
- Organize DVIP Partnership meetings and trainings
- Provide phone supervision with advocates to offer support and review any protocol issues
- Respond to calls from police regarding advocate contacts and troubleshoot issues that arise
- Mediate potential conflicts with police and advocate response and propose changes in protocol to address concerns
- Maintain DVIP Project statistics and prepare grant report in coordination with supervisor
- Write law enforcement newsletter entries as needed

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree;
- Knowledge of dynamics of abuse specifically related to domestic violence and sexual assault
- Leadership and interpersonal skills to successfully foster strong partnership team
- Supervisory and staff training experience
- Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and patiently in-person and on the phone to a diverse population;
- Ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task;
- Must be able to demonstrate professional discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.
