About the Role:

The Director of Marketing will develop, manage, and evaluate domestic and international tourism industry marketing programs to increase travel and tourism to Massachusetts. These programs will include managing the group tour, meetings and events, corporate and cruise market segments.

The Director of Marketing is expected to have a holistic view of the Massachusetts tourism industry and be able to incorporate industry segments in the marketing of the state to different audience segments. The position will work collaboratively with the MOTT team and regional tourism council partners to ensure a clear communications and marketing strategy is executed to increase annual travel and tourism to Massachusetts.

Duties and Responsibilites: (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Work with the Executive Director to develop and execute an annual marketing plan that incorporates and prioritizes destination marketing strategies that engage different tourism industry segments including group tour, meetings and events, corporate, and cruise.
  • Prepare for and attend industry trade shows to promote year-round travel to Massachusetts; develop itineraries, profile sheets, and displays as appropriate; conduct follow up and lead generation for partners from all shows.
  • Work collaboratively with the MOTT team to identify marketing opportunities and develop statewide initiatives that will increase travel and tourism to Massachusetts.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Research to understand industry trends and make recommendations to be more strategic in destination marketing efforts.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • 5+ years of destination marketing experience.
  • Knowledge of the travel and tourism industry.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, along with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel for trade shows.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite platforms (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have at least (A) five (5) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, professional internship, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

II. A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.

III. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience.

IV. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required experience.
