About Us

The Executive Office of Technology Services and Security (EOTSS) is the state's lead office for information technology. We provide enterprise level information technology services including network management and security; computer operations; application hosting; desktop provisioning and management; and modern and responsive digital services to 40,000 internal stakeholders plus the residents, business owners, and visitors to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

About the Role
As part of EOTSS,the Massachusetts Digital Service's (Mass Digital) mission is to use the best technology, data, and design to improve digital interactions with Massachusetts' government. As part of our work, we maintain and evolve Mass.gov, work with agencies to improve the way they deliver services digitally, and release data reports. This summer, we're continuing to deliver against an ambitious, Commonwealth-wide roadmap to transform how people access state government digital services.

We're looking to hire two (2) Digital Services Interns to support our efforts to create more user-friendly and accessible digital services for Massachusetts constituents. Successful candidates will work with Mass Digital product and engagement managers on integrated product and scrum teams, to conduct user experience research, analyze data and business processes, develop prototypes, and synthesize and document findings and recommendations.

The specific projects that interns may support include:

  • Developing and rolling out a universal profile, My.mass.gov, to enable people to access Commonwealth services with a single account and to manage their information and interactions across state services.
  • Piloting a generative AI/LLM-enabled chat bot and live chat to expand the communication channels available to state agencies and their users
  • Conducting user experience research to inform service improvements
  • Improving content related to housing assistance and eviction

The primary work location for this role will be One Ashburton Place, Boston, Massachusetts 02108. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5PM EST. This position would be expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work from home days as needed.

All offers of employment into this position are conditional and subject to passing a Massachusetts Criminal Background Check (CORI), security training, and a security clearance (fingerprinting) consistent with IRS and/or public safety requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

We're seeking candidates across a broad range of skillsets who have a strong interest in improving the way government delivers digital services. The ideal candidate will have experience in research, design, product development, engineering, public policy, or communications.

Other preferred qualifications include:

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to synthesize and write out findings and recommendations
  • Ability to learn new subject matter quickly
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starter/Independent
  • Collaborates well with others
