Contracted Internship: DCR Climate Officer Summer 2024 Intern

Location: 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA

Start/End Date: 06/03/2024 - 08/16/2024 (11 weeks)

Salary Rate: $21.00 per hour

Number of Openings: 1 position

Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for the position of Climate Office Summer Intern.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern position will support the Department of Conservation Climate Office to address climate-related challenges in the Commonwealth and may work across needs of the Climate office. The Intern will be exposed to a range of projects and duties related to a variety of climate mitigation and adaptation topics, based in part on the intern's interests and the needs of the Climate Office. Topics include energy use and emissions tracking, EV charging infrastructure deployment, solar and air-source heat pump deployment, coastal flood resilience, shade structure deployment, and more. This range of projects and duties may include but is not limited to:

  • Creating centralized energy use and emissions tracking platform for DCR Climate Action Team use
  • Supporting collection of energy-use data, utility information, and other projects to ensure successful tracking of decarbonization efforts
  • Developing internal- and external-facing documents highlighting DCR's decarbonization and climate adaptation efforts and best practices
  • Supporting GIS-related projects, including Story Maps on coastal flooding and interactive maps on DCR's decarbonization efforts
  • Writing and editing climate office reports
  • Compiling and presenting information at internal DCR meetings, such as the Net Zero Working Group
  • Supporting DCR equity and environmental justice priorities

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • General knowledge of clean energy and environmental topics
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of ArcGIS Online
  • Ability to write effectively
  • Strong communication and administrative skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate as a team player
  • Strong interpersonal skills
