Position Information:
Contracted Student Internship: DCR Decarbonization
Location: The Intern will report in-person once per week. In-person location may vary week by week pending site visits and team meeting locations. On weeks where no site visits are planned, the intern may report to the office in Boston (10 Park Plaza) or West Boylston (180 Beaman St.).
Start/End Date: 6/2/2025 - 8/15/2025
Salary Rate: $21.00 per hour
Weekly Hours: 22.5 hours
Description: DCR Decarbonization Intern
DCR's Office of Climate Resilience is the hub for climate action at DCR to strengthen the resources under its care so that these sites can better face the impacts of climate change. The Office shares the latest climate knowledge with the entire agency, and supports agency efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from DCR operations. DCR's Climate Office is seeking a qualified intern to support efforts related to the decarbonization of its fleet and buildings. Reporting to DCR's Decarbonization Planning Manager, the intern will work with staff from across the agency on a range of projects that will help advance the agency's climate goals.
The intern will work with DCR staff on a range of projects depending on the candidate's qualifications and interests, and duties and responsibilities will change over time as new programs are developed and projects move from planning to implementation.
This work includes, but is not limited to:
- Supporting strategic planning for public Electric Vehicles (EV) charging deployment
- Leading collection of data on utility vehicles and landscaping equipment used throughout DCR
- Conducting data analysis on building energy use and solar Photovoltaic (PV) opportunities
- Developing internal educational materials, presentations, and web-based resources to inform DCR staff of climate efforts
- Conducting research on clean energy technologies and strategies that can support DCR's decarbonization goals
- Other duties as priorities shift and new projects arise throughout the summer
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- Interest in clean energy, clean transportation, and greenhouse gas emissions reduction efforts
- Ability to conduct self-directed research on a range of climate and energy topics
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently to deliver projects in a timely manner
- Strong communication skills and experience in creating and delivering engaging presentations through PowerPoint and other tools
- Highly organized
- Experience with conducting data analysis through Excel
- Creative thinking and confidence to suggest new ideas and processes
