Early College programs are intentionally designed to empower students traditionally underrepresented in higher education towards degree completion. MA Early College Designated Programs work to blend elements of high school and college to provide students with the opportunity to experience and complete college-level academic coursework on a clearly articulated pathway and simultaneously gain exposure to a variety of career opportunities. Early college programs also reduce the time and expense of earning a college credential while increasing the likelihood of completion.

The Contracted Early College (EC) Data and Research Analyst will work under the direction of the Executive Director of Early College to continue the development of a data and research infrastructure that supports the growth, development, and assessment of designated Early College partnerships in the Commonwealth. The Contracted Early College Data and Research Analyst will also work closely with both the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Department of Higher Education (DHE) to conduct research analysis, provide research reports and support any research requests.

This position has a limited (one-year) duration. The Data and Research Analyst will work on a hybrid schedule, with other possible meetings in the Boston area or across the state as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Produce research and analysis to measure and monitor the outcomes of Early College students

o Analyze Early College outcomes and schoolwide outcomes

o Work with the Early College team to create visualizations and reports for program staff and colleagues to better understand the outcomes of Early College programs

o Work with program staff to integrate outcome data into program target setting, program review and designation

o Collaborate with Early College team to support more robust research plans to evaluate impact of Early College programs

    • Continue building a data reporting structure for the Office of Early College at DESE in partnership with DHE and EOE to share outcome data with the Early College Joint Committee and BESE and BHE Boards. Work with DESE, DHE, and the Executive Office of Education (EOE) research and IT teams to support building a consistent system of merged data between the agencies.
    • Update or create (as needed) infrastructure for regular reporting to the Office of Early College on identified key performance indicators.
    • Collaborate on future data collections, submissions, or edits to both DESE and DHE reporting as it relates to Early College students, including possible qualitative data.


  • As a member of the data team, support the development of Power BI data dashboards, both internal and external facing, for program transparency, reporting, and accountability.
    • Collaborate on the calculation of current and future key performance indicators from both DESE and DHE data, as well as the feasibility of data merging/piping.
    • Collaborate on guidance in partnership with the Office of Early College for both internal and external interpretation of dashboard data.
    • Support EC team in creating and maintaining Early College Dashboard quality control assessments and protocol.
  • Support ongoing internal and external data requests regarding Early College.
    • Develop annual data reports on designated Early College programs to support annual review, assessment, and redesignation as needed.
    • Identify any data gaps and pursue opportunities for future collection or analysis.
    • Advise on the calculation of current and future key performance indicators from both DESE and DHE data, as well as the feasibility of data merging/piping.
    • Support the implementation calendar and process for annual review and updates of dashboards.
  • Support and advise the design and integration of Early College data into the state's longitudinal data warehouse (EDWIN) and the Education to Career Data Hub (E2C Hub).
    • Work with Early College Data and Research Specialist to identify regular data needs for analysis and reporting
    • Design specific tables and views to support those needs
    • Partner with the EDWIN data warehouse team to develop a normalized database design for Early College data
    • Work with Data and Research Specialist to document data rules to ensure transparency and shared understanding of data elements
  • Support expansion and systemization of data reporting on Early College students' outcomes
    • Integrate Early College participant data with appropriate data sources on longitudinal outcomes from the data warehouse
    • Work with team to determine appropriate rules for calculating outcome measures
    • Validate calculated data against other related reported data
    • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum qualifications required at hire:

• Experience working with SQL and inter-relational databases, e.g. Snowflake, Oracle, etc. to query data.

• Experience with R, SPSS or other statistical software and experience conducting statistical analysis

• Experience working with data visualization software (Power BI preferred but not required).

• Strong ability to comprehend, analyze, and communicate complex information quickly, especially related to databases, data analysis, data security and technology systems.

• Knowledge of educational research methods, ideally with a track record of leading or contributing to published educational research.

• Familiarity with state K-12 and/or higher education systems and policies.

• Demonstrated track record in supporting and/or developing data reporting systems.

• Demonstrated track record of commitment to efforts devoted to closing achievement gaps for students traditionally underrepresented in higher education and to addressing racial and economic inequities in education.

• A bachelor's degree and/or at least four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional educational experience in a specific or related content area, educational program or service.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will demonstrate most of the following qualifications. Candidates not meeting all qualifications are still encouraged to apply.

• Experience using Snowflake, Oracle, or other inter-relational databases to query data.

• Experience leading statistical analyses, including regression modelling, using R, SPSS, or other statistical software.

• Familiarity with data systems used by K-12 and/or higher education in Massachusetts (including SIMS, SCS, HEIRS).

• Working knowledge of appropriate indicators and outcomes for Early College or similar programming.

• Experience working with an explicit equity-based lens.

• Track record of strong communication about data (written and verbal) for non-technical audiences, including documentation of datasets, queries and data processes. Demonstrated skills to provide superior service to a client or customer organization, e.g. active listening, developing relationships, structuring problems and creating solutions collaboratively, etc.

• Demonstrated ability to work productively and collegially with individuals and teams.

• Experience working with a range of diverse stakeholders and tailoring approaches and communication to successfully meet project goals and timelines.

• Familiarity with Massachusetts Early College landscape or programs.

This is a limited one-year position, which is a full-time contracted position, 37.5 hours per week, through 6/30/2026.

This contracted position is based at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Everett. Staff are currently operating within a hybrid work model, telecommuting up to three days per week.
