Job Description

The Department of Mental Health Dr. John C. Corrigan Mental Health Center (JCCMHC) is seeking an experienced Licensed Clinician for our Outpatient Department. The identified candidate will be a part of the JCCMHC Outpatient Team responsible for engaging and assessing individuals in a variety of settings, who have been deemed clinically eligible for DMH Services.

The Clinician will complete the Needs and Means Assessments, Psycho-diagnostic evaluations of individuals presenting for services, referrals to internal and external entities as needed, develop initial treatment plans, provide individual/group therapy and coordinate the preparation of client records. The identified candidate will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides comprehensive services to adult individuals living in the community in a variety of settings. The Outpatient Clinician is responsible for leading trauma informed, person centered assessments and treatment planning activities ensuring the interventions utilized are evidenced based and best practices.

Please Note: This position is 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will work from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Days Off: Saturday and Sunday.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):


  • Meets with applicants of DMH services to complete the Needs and Means interview and determine if the applicant meets the criteria.
  • Perform screenings and psychodiagnostic evaluations of current or prospective clients by conducting intake interviews, investigating clients' histories through contact with schools, courts, community groups, families, other agencies and providers, etc., and determining the need for and type of services the client should receive.
  • Participates in the development of the initial treatment plan for clients that is based on the clinical assessment completed during the intake process and presents those findings at the weekly disposition meeting.
  • Aid in the disposition of clients by making referrals within the agency that are based on clinical evaluation.
  • Provide referral services to individuals who are not authorized for DMH services.
  • Aids in the assembly of the client record for all new clients and tracks the necessary documentation for opening a new record.
  • Ensures intake documentation is completed within designated timeframes and in accordance with established agency Protocols & ROPs.
  • Provide individual &/or group therapy to assigned clients.
  • Attends department meetings as needed/required for position, including staff meetings, individual supervision, group supervision, etc.
  • Participate in weekly Service Authorization review meetings to review applications and update status for individuals seeking determination for DMH services.
  • Serves on a multidisciplinary team by attending regularly scheduled meetings; by coming prepared to present psychosocial histories, mental status, diagnosis, treatment provided, and the treatment planned for assigned cases; by participating in discussion of other cases so as to ensure that consumers receive optimal care.
  • Assesses and responds to crisis and emergency situations by intervening immediately with appropriate clinical treatment or referral.
  • Assumes responsibility for clinical record documentation requirements by recording in the record in a thorough and timely manner so that other providers are aware of the treatment provided and so that the clinical record is in compliance with agency standards. This includes ensuring data is entered into the electronic medical record.
  • Ensures that all billing documents and supporting documentation are completed within programs' designated time frames.
  • Serves on committees and becomes involved in task force assignments to help share and improve service delivery.
  • Provide community outreach and education regarding DMH eligibility process as well as to DMH staff.
  • Participate in data gathering to track trends in service requests and assist with waitlist management if appropriate.
  • Attend all mandatory training as scheduled.
  • Maintains all client-related databases.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to age related and cultural needs of the clients served.
  • Employee is professional, courteous, and respectful in dealing with clients, families, co-workers and other service providers.
  • Demonstrates compliance with the Social Work code of ethics and discipline requirements necessary for license currency.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of special treatment modalities for First Episode Psychosis including family therapy and group treatment, brief therapy.
  • Familiarity with the development of adolescents, transition age youth, and young adults.
  • Skilled in the use of competency-based, evidence-based, and best practice interventions including use of identified screening tools.
  • Understanding of psychosocial problems of those with serious emotional disorders.
  • Ability to provide group interventions utilizing evidence-based modalities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a trusting therapeutic alliance with clients and their families.
  • Familiarity of the principles, practices, and techniques of the range of therapeutic behavioral health services for youth.
  • Capacity to remain calm, rational and react quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Talent for establishing and maintaining a positive, respectful, and professional relationships with all staff, family, and clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and productive manner to achieve programmatic and agency goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to assess persons served mental status and assist them with utilizing coping strategies, natural supports, and safety planning when necessary.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of evidence-based practices and treatment modalities for young adults with mental health needs.
  • Strong assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills, with the ability to implement evidence-based interventions based on clients' needs and goals.
  • Knowledge and experience with care coordination and referral systems to assist clients with accessing community resources.
  • Strong documentation and record-keeping skills, with the ability to ensure compliance with DMH, Joint Commission, and agency standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, families, interdisciplinary teams, and community partners.
  • A commitment to providing culturally and linguistically competent services that are sensitive and responsive to the needs of diverse populations, including those with physical disabilities, sexual orientation, and gender differences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: None. (See Required Education and Licenses.)

REQUIRED EDUCATION: A Master's or higher degree in social work.

LICENSES: Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.

- Current and valid licensure as a Licensed Certified Social Worker or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Social Work.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
