Job Description

Position Summary:

The Assistant Maintenance Supervisor shall perform maintenance tasks at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility and provide assistance to the Director of Facilities.

Supervision Received:

Receives general direction and oversight from the Director of Facilities in performing duties in accordance with all best practices and established guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists with the daily operation of the Facilities Department.

Assists in the direct supervision of the Facilities staff assigned to custodial and grounds maintenance duties.

Responsible for the supervision/escorting of contractors performing work within the BCCF and ensures all safety protocols are followed.

Participates in the screening and hiring of staff, trains, supervises, and assists in the annual performance evaluations.

Assists in facility inspection, equipment maintenance, and ground inspection, and recommends improvements in the facility to ensure that needs are met.

Responds to emergencies calls for maintenance and repairs.

Responds to after hour request for maintenance and coordinates response.

Assists in the supervision of building operations including maintenance, repairs, and renovations by the Facilities Department employees and contractors.

Reviews daily cleaning checklists and ensure work was completed as indicated.

Addresses any discrepancies with staff arising from work order review and actual condition of the facility.

Reviews time and attendance for all Facilities staff and shift assignments.

Assists in the administrative functions of the Facility department. Completes administrative duties, such as filling out forms and reporting maintenance statuses to the Director of Facilities.

Responsible for all estimates and installation for new and current systems.

Maintains inventory of all machinery and vehicle parts; facility supplies, furniture, and miscellaneous items stored in the warehouse.

Performs routine building maintenance duties, including but not limited to painting, minor electrical repairs, minor plumbing, carpentry, and heating and ventilation systems maintenance.

Complies with all safety and health regulations.

Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing and carpentry practices.

Ability to work with other members of the facility department as necessary.

Working knowledge of inventory management.

Knowledge of types and uses of materials, tools and equipment used in building
maintenance work.

Knowledge of methods followed in building custodial work.

Qualifications

A High School Diploma or equivalent certificate is required.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in general building repair and maintenance with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

A minimum of one (1) years of experience working in a correctional facility is preferred but not required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A valid driver's license is required.

Must be available for call-backs as needed.

Physical stamina and endurance.
