Job Description:
POSITION: Full-Time Assistant Dean of the Library (Assistant Dean): Library Services; Haverhill (100 Elliott Street) and Lawrence (45 Franklin Street) Campuses; 37.5 hours per week, Non-Unit Professional Position
SUMMARY: The Assistant Dean of the Library at Northern Essex Community College is a key leadership role responsible for providing strategic direction, management, and oversight of all library services and resources. The candidate will lead a team of dedicated professionals to ensure that the library supports the educational and research needs of students, faculty, staff and the broader community. The Dean of the Library will collaborate closely with academic departments and administrative units to enhance the role of the library as a center for learning, research, and innovation. Consideration will be made to hire at a higher Dean level depending on additional years of experience and educational credentials.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for the library that aligns with the mission and goals of the Northern Essex Community College.
- Lead initiatives to integrate emerging technologies, information literacy curriculum, and innovative library services to enhance the overall learning experience.
- Stay abreast of trends in library science, higher education, and technology to guide the continuous improvement of library spaces and services.
- Participate in campus-wide strategic initiatives to ensure library integration into cross-curricular programs, services, and events
- Advocate for the library's role in supporting student success and academic excellence within the college community and beyond.
- The NECC Library is a member of the HELM (Higher Education Libraries in Massachusetts) consortium. The Assistant/Associate Dean serves on the HELM Board of directors and as the NECC Library representative on other external library groups and consortia.
- Leadership and Team Management:
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate library staff, including professional librarians, support personnel, and student assistants.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages creativity, diversity, professional growth, and teamwork.
- Resource Management:
- Manage the library budget, including allocation of funds for acquisitions, subscriptions, personnel, and other operational expenses.
- Information Services:
- Provide guidance on information literacy initiatives, reference services, and research support to assist students and faculty in achieving their academic and research goals.
- Collection Development:
- Oversee the acquisition and management of physical and digital collections, ensuring they are current, relevant, and aligned with NECC academic programs.
- Manage the NECC Archives print and digital collections including inventory, storage, preservation and projects.
- Outreach and Engagement:
- Promote library services through effective marketing and communication strategies.
- Cultivate partnerships with academic departments, student organizations, and community stakeholders to enhance library engagement and utilization.
- Assessment and Data Analysis:
- Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure the effectiveness of library services and programs.
- Prepare regular reports on key performance indicators, usage statistics, and other relevant metrics for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in library administration, including supervisory and managerial roles.
- Strong understanding of emerging library technologies, information literacy trends, and best practices in academic librarianship.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders within and outside the college.
- Experience in budget management, resource allocation, and strategic planning.
- Will be required to travel to both Lawrence and Haverhill campuses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population

Additional Information:
SALARY: Anticipated starting salary range is $100,000.00 - $110,000.00 annually with complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits.
