Job Description

The Military Division (Massachusetts National Guard) is seeking a motivated individual for the role of Armorer II at the Reading armory. The selected candidate for this role will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of armories and facilities. This integral role requires an individual who is committed to maintaining clean buildings that will provide a healthy environment for the Military Division.

The ideal candidate will have experience thoroughly cleaning buildings and performing minor maintenance needs in designated building(s) and the surrounding outside grounds. It also consists of monitoring boilers and heaters, performing minor routine maintenance activities, like changing light bulbs, replacing batteries, changing gaskets and flushometers.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive)

• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.

• Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.

• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using water and or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.

• Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating/ work hours.

• Notify managers concerning the needs for major repairs.

• Service, clean and supply restrooms.

• Gather and empty trash and debris.

• Snow cleaning and removal on sidewalks and walkways.

• Maintaining lighting fixtures.

• Upkeep of grounds and lawn mowing.

ABOUT OUR AGENCY

The Massachusetts Guard has a unique dual mission, with both federal and state responsibilities. During peacetime, Guard forces are commanded by the Governor through the State Adjutant General. The Governor can call the Guard into action during local or state-wide emergencies, such as storms, floods, blizzards, and civil disturbances. In addition, the President of the United States can activate the Massachusetts National Guard to participate in federal missions. The Massachusetts National Guard's mission is to be trained and ready to provide units that can mobilize for any contingency, at home or abroad. To accomplish this, we must sustain a ready, reliable, and robust joint military team of Army, Air Force and civilians that will honor our responsibilities to nation and community. The National Guard is one branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Massachusetts National Guard consists of both the Massachusetts Army National Guard and the Massachusetts Air National Guard. We are composed of full-time and part-time Soldiers and Airmen, as well as civilians, who together serve the Commonwealth and country.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning various types of surfaces.

• Knowledge of basic safety practices related to janitorial work.

• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

• Work effectively without close supervision.

• Ability to perform heavy physical labor.

• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

• Understand and follow a work schedule.

• Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.

• Combinations of training and experience likely to provide the desired knowledge.

• Willing to drive to multiple facilities (within a 20-mile radius).

Must have a valid Driver's License

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in building custodial or institution housekeeping work.

Special Requirements:

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
