Position overview

As a key member of the QSE Team, the Safety Manager will drive the safety strategy with the plant leaders and key focus areas to improve safety performance, have the right priorities, expertise and initiatives to achieve our vision of 'Zero is Possible'. This will include the implementation of needed processes, programs, metrics, and technologies to deliver safety performance results.

Coordinate and implement the Occupational Safety Management programs in compliance with federal and state regulations and corporate requirements. Provides advice, guidance and management on all matters relating to Health, Safety & Security, ensure a safe and healthy workplace, and enable compliance with local regulations and standards.

This leader will benchmark internally and externally, leverage best-in-class systems and processes for system integration, collaborate across functions, be result oriented, be a self-starter and creative, have constructive curiosity, and will bring innovative solutions.

Essential Functions:

  • Insure the implementation of the Occupational Safety Management System, Industrial Hygiene and Property Loss Prevention program in compliance with federal and state regulations. Continuously improve the site safety management system to satisfy ISO 45001 standard and KORE Requirements.
  • Administer the Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene and Property Loss Prevention compliance activities at CRI.
  • Provide technical support and orientation to all associates and/or units concerning Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene and Property Loss Prevention matters as required.
  • Develop an annual Occupational Safety work plan, track, and assure it is completed as planned. Review and improve related procedures and standard work instructions.
  • Track metrics related to compliance with safety programs in plant, report to management and provide inputs to establish these metrics. Use the TCCC reporting system, to analyze trends and use them to drive relevant strategies.
  • Ensure dynamic CPS OSH communication within our network to standardize processes, drive priorities, show case best practices, share learnings in case of incidents.
  • Provide technical leadership to analyze safety incidents and establish corrective and preventive actions. Evaluate incidents to identify trends.
  • Promote the active participation of the associates in safety initiatives or processes.
  • Build a strong safety culture starting with leadership team, general manager, and frontline leaders. Leads Behavioral Based Safety Program, establishes annual goals, and assures adherence with plan. Integrates HOP philosophy into problem solving and investigations.
  • Manages the Occupational Safety Operational Requirements (KORE) requirements and assures compliance.
  • Provide and/or coordinate the general Occupational Safety and Health orientations to new associates, contractors and/or temporary personnel.
  • Evaluate, select, and recommend personal protective equipment for the associates based on potential exposure.
  • Inform management of major problems, investigations results and recommendations to improve actual systems and/or procedures.
  • Administer the Ergonomic Program in coordination with unit associates.
  • Prepare, submit, and track area annual budget. Manage Safety budget, recommend cost savings and proactively negotiate with vendors and suppliers.
  • Provides and/or coordinates continuous compliance training on OSHA requirements.
  • Provide Safety considerations or support to units on new materials, equipment, layouts, modifications, designs, etc. Support robust Change Management Program.
  • Lead activities related to the external audits, inspections and visits from outside agencies and certification bodies related to Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene and Property Loss Prevention, including audit coordination, reviewing findings and reporting to management.
  • Participate in the Internal Audit Program to keep improving the system and ensure site audit readiness for ISO, GAO audits.
  • Prepare status and compliance reports to local management, Corporate Safety Division and/or regulatory agencies as required.
  • Monitor the operation and maintenance of all the safety equipment, fire prevention and control system and the emergency and evacuation alarm system.
  • Inspection, certification and maintenance of safety regulated equipment in accordance to applicable regulations.
  • Comply with all Internal Control requirements in own department and CRI as applicable.
  • Collaborate and benchmark internally and externally to ensure safety programs, guidelines and tools remain current and reflect the latest thinking, and to share best practices.
  • Participate and promote BE initiatives that contribute toward continuous improvement (5's, workplace audit, T Cards, Idea Cards, Big C, Tip Plan, Communication Center, etc.).

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor's/Master's degree, in Science, Engineering, or relevant technical area

Fully Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Experience:

Five years of experience in a similar position in the regulated industry, preferred in Occupational Health and Safety.

Knowledge of CO-GENERATION plants operation is highly desirable.
