Director, Technical Consumer Research Capabilities

The Technical Consumer Research (TCR) Director Capabilities will spearhead the creation, development and standardization of TCR Global Capabilities to include frameworks, methodologies, approaches to ensure best-in-class functional expertise for our Global TCR function, agnostic of categories and Operating Units (OU's), ensuring global standardization and harmonization, for end-to-end consumer centric innovation, adopting appropriate risk management, safety and compliance.

This role is to investigate the future of sensory and consumer research via external networking, collaboration with agile start-up's, partner agencies, academia, to enhance current capabilities and build a future-looking, next generation, world class, fit for purpose functional capability research strategy for Global TCR, whilst addressing agile and future next generation research needs, of emerging cultural behaviors and insights, to deliver superior consumer centric insights for our diverse categories and OU's.

This role requires close partnership with Global TCR, Research & Development (R&D), Scientific Regulatory Affairs (SRA), HI, Marketing, Global Development & Innovation (GDI), Technical Innovation & Supply Chain (TI&SC), GDI Strategy, imbedding internal and external cross-functional frameworks such as Beach, AI generated synthetic personas, Need States, Demand Spaces, Innovation Consumer Centric Framework, AI for unstructured data, to enable end to end, consumer research planning.

Secondary to the role, to design and lead strategic, enterprise-wide consumer research focused on human-centric design, for product, packaging, and equipment.

What You'll Do for Us:

  • Lead of Global Capabilities, to create a multi-year, world class, transformational, future forward, Capability strategy whilst addressing agile and future consumer research needs, of superior and emerging cultural behaviors and insights, to deliver consumer insights for our diverse categories and OU's.
  • Collaborate and partner with a cross-functional community of experts via internal and external networking, to include internal technical consumer researchers, experts of consumer, human, shopper insights, external agile start-up's, agency partners, academia, inclusive of AI technology data partners, to shape the Capabilities agenda.
  • Lead the creation, development, and standardization of TCR Global Capabilities across our frameworks, methodologies, approaches, ensuring best-in-class functional expertise for our Global TCR function, adopting appropriate risk management, safety, and compliance.
  • Lead of Digital, technology-driven and modelling capability approaches, apply knowledge and application of AL and ML for large-scale sensory and consumer data as a main component of the future Capabilities agenda, fostering innovative, technology-forward, efficient, automated, agile business outcomes.
  • Develop an enterprise wide, end-to-end consumer centric innovation framework, with guidelines & principals, agnostic of categories and OU's.
  • Be a business partner, influencing Global and local TCR, R&D, SRA, HI, Marketing, GDI Strategy, to enhance consumer centric, cross-functional frameworks (Beach, Psychographic consumers, Need States..) of TCR data and insights, adopting a consumer-first mindset and with a deep understanding of the business environment.
  • Design and lead strategic, enterprise-wide consumer research focused on human-centric design, for product, packaging, and equipment, inclusive of data analysis, interpret of results to inform business recommendations.
  • Identify strategic category needs to develop and implement research plans to gain actionable sensory and consumer insights, providing technical guidance to the development team, Global Category teams and Operating Unit, as appropriate.
  • Capability Expert requires a fundamental knowledge of sensory science, consumer research, statistics, AI, ML, and business acumen.
  • Lead and champion best practices, research methodologies, and develop creative solutions to complex challenges. Be curious to identify innovative alternative methods, frameworks, approaches.

Competencies:

  • High level of understanding and application of TCR Consumer Science methodologies and applied statistics.
  • Creative, futurist, visualizer, and opportunist in nature.
  • Strong leadership and upward influence; entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Excellent communicator and interpersonal skills for collaborative work with technical and business teams.
  • Ability to work independently in a rapid FMCG company, understanding risk management and pivoting as needed.
  • Experience & Qualifications:
  • BSc or PhD in Food Science, Psychology, or a similar discipline, including applied statistics and creative storytelling.
  • Industry experience from multiple FMCG Food & Beverage companies in a Consumer Science function.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Consumer Methodologies.
  • Proficient in creative suites such as InvisionApp and emerging AI solutions like ChatGPT, DALL-E, Nexus AI.
