Director, CPS Data Engineering

The Director, Data Engineering will oversee the data strategy for Commercial Products Supply (CPS), focusing on strategic planning and the global delivery of value-driven insights. This role is crucial in bridging business challenges with technological solutions, enabling predictive analytics and data-driven decisions throughout the organization. Combining hands-on data framework development with team leadership, the Director will foster best-in-class data ingestion and transformation practices while aligning with broader organizational goals like cost management, streamlined working capital and operational excellence.
What You'll Do for Us:
- Mentor and Lead: Foster a collaborative environment that encourages continuous learning, professional growth, and innovation. Guide Big Data teams in designing, architecting, and implementing end-to-end solutions.
- Collaborative Development: Participate actively in software and system design and development using agile methodologies with Azure Data Services (Synapse, ADF, Spark/Databricks, PowerBI, etc.) to serve up data for analysis and predictive insights.

- Optimized Data Modeling: Develop logical, conceptual, and physical models tailored for diverse personas, enhancing analytical needs while optimizing Azure services for various workloads and cost-efficiency (batch, streaming, ad-hoc queries, ETL, ML etc.).
- Streamline Data Systems: Simplify complex and fragmented enterprise data systems by refining data flows and eliminating unnecessary costs, driving efficiency across CPS.
- Manage own learning and contribute to technical skill building of the organization.
- Inspire and cultivate the engineering mindset and systems thinking within the team.
- Ensure conceptual and architectural integrity of the platform and solution.
- Strategic and Technical Balance: Maintain a balance between hands-on development (50%) and strategic leadership (50%) to adapt strategies in response to technological advances and business needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Experience in distributed computing and big data architectures.
- Proven experience in developing data solutions with Azure Data Services (Synapse, Databricks, etc).
- Highly proficient in SQL
- Hands-on experience with Spark and Delta Lake.
- Hands-on experience with workload orchestration and automation tools like ADF, AutoSys, RunMyJobs, Control-M etc.
- Deep knowledge in data modeling and hands-on experience in designing, implementing and tuning ELT workloads.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Persuasive with strong strategic and analytical abilities.
- DevOps: Appreciates the CI and CD model and always builds to ease consumption and monitoring of the system.
