Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking Tool Grinder/Induction Heater A to join our team in Renton & Everett, WA!

Tool grinder operators setup, operate and adjust numerous types of conventional or Computer Numerically Controlled grinding equipment, utilizing drawings, sketches, specification documents, pre-planned control media and/or program documents to fabricate, inspect, refurbish, alter and/or sharpen tools.

Employment in this position also requires carrying and lifting less than35 pounds, finger manipulation, handling, rotation of head/neck, sitting, standing, walking, contact with metals, exposure to noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye, ears and feet.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Obtain appropriate tool drawings, specification documents and/or sketches, as required.
  • Ensure that the correct grinding wheels, set-up tools, or fixtures are available for use and are free from visible defects.
  • Identify type of set-up required or run previously set-up job by reviewing work order, tie-in sheets, operators or setup documents, drawings, sketches and/or CATIA plots.
  • Check machine set-up and/or parts completed by previous operator to determine progress on a job and ensure safe working conditions, as required.
  • Select machine accessories and holding devises.
  • Verify that the apparatus is in good condition.
  • Attach machine accessories, tools, fixtures, shop aids and gears using dial indicators, dividing head, wrenches, bolts, clamps, and lifting devises.
  • Download CNC programs to machine controller using computing equipment, as required.
  • Select, form, and check cutting tools or grinding wheels per drawings, specification documents, sketches, program, or CNC documents.
  • Ensure cutters or grinding wheels are the correct type, width, diameter, radius, and are in good condition.
  • Load and unload grinding wheels following machine or program information or set-up documents, using tool holders, grinding wheel hubs, spindle tapers, hand tools and/or lifting devises.
  • Load and install tools to be manufactured or altered and fabricate as required.
  • Set machine coordinates or index points per conventional machine documents or CNC documents, including cutter offset/compensations, tool heights, and probes, using controller keyboard, digital readout; height blocks, and shims, as required.
  • Run CNC programs to machine grind precision cutting tools following NC documents, as required.
  • Adjust machine settings to correct grinding problems or to prepare machine for next operation in sequence, including; head, spindle, or wheel angles.
  • Perform minor editing of CNC programs per shop requirements.
  • Monitor machine during operation for unusual vibration or sounds, watch machine gauges and controller display or digital readout for warnings, visually check wheel path and clearance to ensure smooth operation.
  • Perform hand honing and other bench work necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Check own work after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job to ensure tool features are complete per drawing, specification documents, or sketches and that there are no defects.
  • Handle and protect components and assemblies in accordance with shop procedures and drawing requirements.
  • Use precision optical and physical measuring instruments to verify correct cutting tool geometry.
  • Laser etch, chemical etch, or vibro-engrave part numbers on cutting tools as required by drawings or documents.
  • Contact lead/supervisor/tool engineer/planner when assistance is needed. Maintain personal and tool certifications, as required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • 1+ years of experience utilizing and following detailed work instructions, reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications.
  • 1+ years of experience using software applications for internet navigation, email, Microsoft Suite and/or other specialized computer applications.
  • 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 1+ years of setting up and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators.
  • 1+ years of experience doing jobs or tasks where you have to apply math skills such as algebra, geometry and/or trigonometry.
  • 1+ years of experience working with tool and cutter grinding processes, prototype development, or fabrication processes.
  • 1+ years of experience with Conventional and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • Experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators
  • Experience doing jobs or tasks where you had to apply math skills such as algebra, geometry and/or trigonometry
  • Experience working with tool and cutter grinding processes, prototype development, or fabrication processes

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary pay range: $29.50 - $46.58
