Boeing Commercial Airplanes is currently looking for Tool and Die Maker in the Puget Sound region in Washington State!

A Tool and Die Maker in this position will plan, layout, fabricate, make, assemble, maintain and repair tools; rebuild and repair hydraulic and vacuum fixtures. The job involves coordinated tolerances in more than one working plane and/or involving obtuse, acute or right angle construction; with dies such as push-through, blanking, piercing, cut-off, forming, joggle, deep, and compound dies.

Positions Responsibilities:
  • Perform all functions of tool fabrication, rework and repair, as required.
  • Troubleshoot problems and develop plans to resolve production issues; including, rebuilding and repairing hydraulic and vacuum fixtures.
  • Determine sequence of and coordinate tool fabrication work.
  • Obtain appropriate tool drawings, specification documents and/or sketches, as required, using computing systems (e.g., Bold/Web, Online Planning system, CATIA) if drawings, sketches and/or documents are not with work order.
  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts and molds.
  • Develop plans for accomplishing work in fabrication, maintenance and repair of tools, as required.
  • Coordinate planning or engineering change requests and routine maintenance work with other internal support groups.
  • This job involves the ability to fabricate and build various types of tooling with dies such as push-through, blanking, piercing, cut-off, forming, joggle, deep, and compound dies.
  • Knowledge of machining theory, mechanical systems, welding and assembly to layout.
  • Read and interpret information from planning documents, drawings, tool orders, blueprints, sketches, specifications, engineering orders and quality assurance manuals to determine the methods and sequence of operations necessary to completely fabricate and assemble all types and sizes of tools, molds, jigs, dies and fixtures.
  • Lay out details, dimensions and tooling points of parts, tools, molds, jigs, dies and fixtures preparatory to fabrication operations using shop mathematics, geometry and trigonometry.
  • Set up and operate hand tools and power machine tools.
  • Fabricate, assemble and proof a variety of molds, jigs, fixtures, tools and dies, inspection check fixtures and tools, to required configuration, close and exacting dimensions, and tolerances, such as drill jigs having coordinated dimensions in planes not at right angles, progressive or compound dies, draw dies with deep, irregular or variable depth draws, form dies, hot sizing dies, punch press dies and fixtures incorporating indexing principles.
  • Check work in progress and complete parts, using precision measuring devices, for adherence to specified configuration, dimensions, tolerances and finish.
  • Record manufacturing data and statistics manually or with the aid of a computer or computer-based system
  • Understanding of tolerance stack up and datum structures.
  • Experience working with jigs, fixtures, inspection check fixtures and tooling dies.
  • Proven safety record and understanding of factory processes, safety rules and requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required):
  • Experience using complete set of toolmaker shop equipment (milling, lathe, precision, grinding, polishing, and fitting).
  • Ability to use eye, hearing, foot, hand, respirator and other personal protective equipment as required.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to walk constantly throughout the workday; stand 6-8 hours per day; climb or work from stairs/steps up to 8 hours per day; climb ladders; bend and twist frequently up to six hours per day; squat and kneel.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years Tool & Die Maker experience.
  • Completed an approved Mold Maker or Tool and Die Maker state apprenticeship program and/or certified by the U.S.
  • Ability to perform machining operations with a specified degree of accuracy and within a timely manner Maintain close and exacting tolerances and finish requirements ensuring highest quality workmanship on all tools, gages, and fixtures with minimal scrap.
  • Capable of creating a repeatable setup and working to tolerances of +/-.0002" in controlled environment.
  • Possesses 4 and 5 axis CNC skills for mill or lathe, and extensive knowledge of detail cutting tool geometry for different cutting tool types and materials.
  • Ability to reverse engineer and manufacture mold components within time limitations.

Summary pay range: $25.00 - $48.98
