Boeing is seeking a talented, motivated, and high-performing Senior Software Engineer to help create technologies that will define the future of aerospace. In this position, you will collaborate with other world-class scientists, researchers, and engineers innovating on a range of technologies including; advanced training, simulation, production analytics, autonomy, electro-optical/infrared sensing, cybersecurity, disruptive computing, networks, high-fidelity digital twin and virtualization. This position will be in North Charleston, South Carolina or Berkeley, Missouri.

As part of Boeing Research & Technology's (BR&T) Mission Systems Software Engineering, our software engineers use their expertise to create next-generation software capabilities for amazing aerospace, satellite, and autonomy platforms. Our products help solve Boeing's most challenging problems across Commercial Airplanes, Defense Space & Security, and Global Services businesses.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Leads activities to develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software systems
  • Leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met
  • Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier management activities
  • Leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools, and metrics
  • Plans, executes, and documents software research and development projects
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes, and regulations
  • Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards
  • Works under minimal direction

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team's discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree
  • 7+ years of experience designing and developing software for a real time or non-real-time system
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, C, C++, and MATLAB
  • Experience using Gitlab
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Active Top Security/SCI with PolyClearance
  • 9+ years of experience designing and developing software for a real time or non-real-time system
  • Experience automating software builds, unit tests, integration tests, deployment, and installations using a DevOps tool chain (Gitlab, Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory, etc)

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
