The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Senior Hardware/FPGA Design Engineer (Level 4) to join the Secure Computing Solutions (SCS) team located in Pleasanton, CA. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

The Boeing SCS organization supports a diverse portfolio of programs for the Department of Defense as well as Boeing Commercial Aircraft. The team is responsible for Integrated Circuits, Circuit boards, embedded software, electronic boxes and test equipment designed to meet the secure computing requirements of the program.

As part of the SCS Applied Solutions team, the candidate will play a key role in delivering product to a diverse set of Boeing platforms being used around the world. This position will provide the candidate an opportunity to further develop engineering skills while in a technical leadership role.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead engineer responsible for design and testing of embedded electronics assemblies.
  • Direct team consisting of electrical, FPGA, embedded software, firmware and test engineers.
  • Responsible for circuit design, schematic capture, board layout, circuit simulation and FPGA logic design/simulation.
  • Analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications
  • Test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements
  • Support fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle
  • Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
  • Assists in development of electronic architecture and detailed specifications for various electronic products
  • Assists in development of detailed designs consistent with requirements and specifications
  • Conducts various methods of testing and analysis to support design
  • Gathers data for technical performance measures
  • Assists in providing engineering support throughout the lifecycle of the product
  • Work in a multi-tasking environment while supporting multiple projects concurrently and working with geographically disperse teams
  • Occasional travel is required
This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Export Control:

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):
  • Possess a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in digital design and/or FPGA implementation
  • Experience with circuit design, schematic capture and analysis with Mentor Graphics or other PCB design software
  • Experience with VHDL/Verilog Hardware Description Languages
  • Experience with Simulation, Modeling and Analysis of Electronic Hardware

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance
  • PCB design & PCB assembly verification, debug, troubleshooting & repair
  • High speed digital signaling > 5GHz
  • Hyperlynx SI/PI.
  • Analog Design, Switch Mode and Linear Power supplies
  • Experience with Altera and/or Xilinx FPGAs and tools
  • Programming experience in C/C++, C#, Java, Visual Basic
  • Knowledge of Matlab, PSPICE and
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Security / Information Assurance skills
  • FPGA Security - Secure boot, SecMon, Fencing, Partial Reconfiguration

Typical Education:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
