Introduction:

The Boeing P-8 Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft is a military aircraft developed by Boeing Defence, built on a modified design of the 737-800ERX. The Aircraft is fitted with equipment to tackle a diverse range of missions, including protecting submarines and reconnaissance missions. The platform was initially developed for the US Navy, first flown in 2009 and introduced in 2013. In 2019, the UK Ministry of Defence received the first of a fleet of nine P-8A Aircraft. The ninth aircraft was delivered in January 2022.

BDUK has been supporting the UK fleet as the exclusive Maintenance Repair Organisation (MRO) since its introduction as a key part of the Boeing Global Services P8 International team, and continued under its BDUK part 145 approval since April 2021. While continuing to support the UK customer at RAF Lossiemouth under its own contract with the UK MOD, BDUK are looking to support other RAF Fixed Wing platforms and our Boeing International customers as they bring their own P8 fleets into service in the coming years.

As part of our continued growth supporting our customers, we are looking for highly skilled aircraft maintenance professionals to join the team, supporting not only the UK Poseidon MRA Mk1 fleet, the E7 Wedgetail but also our international P8 customers across the globe. Our team is based in Lossiemouth UK, but all new candidates must willing to work on assignment in foreign locations for periods of time as determined by the contracts Boeing are awarded.

The Role

The Fixed Wing Maintenance Controller leads, plans, organises and controls all maintenance execution activity culminating in the serviceable release of the aircraft. Working as a team within production control, supervising and coordinating all maintenance efforts on their assigned shift, communicating with maintenance personnel and ensuring commitment to the flight operation schedule is key. Working closely with the Military Continuous Airworthiness Management Organisation (MilCAMO) planners, the Maintenance Control team accepts Statements of Work and ensures the planning process is followed into execution and through to the post-input reviews. The Maintenance Controller is relied upon to be a subject matter expert and act as spokesperson for the organisation on matters pertaining to polices, plans and objectives. The successful candidate for this will be experienced in certifying for Aircraft/Engine maintenance, coordination and planning of maintenance.

TheMaintenance Controllerwill be primarily part of the P8 International Sustainment team based at RAF Lossiemouth and be prepared to operate worldwide for extended periods of time (1 month-24 months). After onboarding at RAF Lossiemouth, the first assignment is expected to be in Norway with further opportunities in other locations. Enhanced support packages are provided for all overseas assignments.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring their team's understanding of the requirements, with regard to work undertaken/completed, having been carried out in accordance with the relevant planned work instruction, Engineering instruction or other approved data
  • Ensuring sufficient resource is available to meet schedule milestones and on time completion of work, with due consideration to Human Factors
  • Ensuring their teams have the right tooling and equipment available to meet the planned schedule, to ensure work flow productivity and to maintain acceptable work standard
  • Participating in Continuous Improvement (CI) workshops as a Subject Matter expert (SME), identifying and working with relevant functions to remove inefficiencies and escalating any situations beyond their control to the Operations Manager
  • Managing the integration of emerging and scheduled work to meet agreed schedules
  • Controlling and sequencing the workload, based on emerging requirements, to prevent conflict of work streams and maintain the overall flow of work to the planned schedule
  • Ensuring schedule milestones are achieved on time, or impacts/issues escalated to the Operations manager
  • Adopting a collaborative approach to their work and ensuring a collaborative approach is adopted by their teams

Work Authorisation:

This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants.

Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.

Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance (SC) for which UK residency is required. All information will be checked and verified.

Relocation: This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Typical Education/Experience:
  • Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent training programme
  • Extensive Aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Aircraft certification experience within an aircraft maintenance repair organisation (MRO)
  • Demonstrable project management / Key Stakeholder experience.
  • Experience in the implementation of Lean techniques
  • Demonstrable experience with Microsoft Office with the ability to compile and present reports of a technical nature
  • Highly competent written and verbal communication skills essential.
