The E-7 Wedgetail is the world's most advanced, capable and reliable Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) platform, having proven itself in operations around the world. The aircraft is designed to track multiple airborne and maritime targets simultaneously while also providing situational awareness and directing other assets such as fighter jets and warships.

The E7 Wedgetail is currently undergoing modification in Birmingham. Each of the 3 aircraft will require a period of Flight Testing prior to entering service based in Lossiemouth, Scotland.

As part of BDUK's continued growth, we are now looking for skilled aircraft maintenance professionals to form the E7 Aircraft Maintenance Mobilisation Team. This team will be based at RAF Lossiemouth working as part of the existing established BDUK P8 aircraft maintenance team, before transitioning to E7 Type Training (Q-Course) in January 2023 and on to practical training in Australia for 3 months. The E7 AMMT will then be ready to support the Flight Test program for the first completed UK E7 aircraft in August 2023. The Flight Test programme is expected to be based in Boscombe Down. The first aircraft will then enter into service in Lossiemouth, with the E7 AMMT working to support both the in-service aircraft in Lossiemouth and the flight testing phase of aircraft numbers 2 & 3 in Boscombe Down. Upon final completion of the flight testing programme, this team will combine with the P8 aircraft maintenance team to form a single E7 and P8 sustainment team based at RAF Lossiemouth.

The team will be based in Lossiemouth and therefore all business travel to Australia and Boscombe Down will be supported in line with current Boeing Global Mobility and Travel policies.

This position is for a technician/certifier who will carry out aircraft maintenance tasks as required. The technician will be based at RAF Lossiemouth, expect significant time in Australia to gain experience (3 months) followed by an extended period of time working between Lossiemouth and the Flight Testing base which is expect to be Boscombe Down. Upon completion of the flight testing, this position will be based in RAF Lossiemouth.

The role will demand flexibility to travel to support emergent requirements, a proactive attitude to problem-solving and a high degree of autonomy in managing personal development to ensure readiness to maintain the E7.

Responsibility to:
  • Deliver Aircraft maintenance under Boeing's own MAA MRP part 145
  • Assemble, disassemble and/or modify systems by changing removing replacing or upgrading aerospace vehicle components to correct failures or implement changes
  • Configure aerospace vehicles and test equipment
  • Troubleshoot complex aircraft systems to isolate faults and repair faulty components within guidelines published in authorized maintenance documents
  • Complete required training and work experience to ensure authorisations in place to support E7 flight testing and entry into service
  • Work alongside the P8 aircraft maintenance team in Lossiemouth when gaps in E7 demand

Qualifications/Experience:
  • A recognised apprenticeship scheme or equivalent training programme
  • P8 maintenance experience will be preferred due to simplified cross-training opportunities
  • 12 months of experience working on a military platform desirable
  • Recent aircraft maintenance experience ideally on fixed wing narrow body aircraft (737 Commercial or 737 Military Commercial Derivative desirable)
  • Line or Base maintenance experience
  • Proficient computer skills, use of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Willingness and ability to work away from Lossiemouth for extended periods of time

Work Authorisation:

This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants.
