The BR&T Specialty Materials and Integration Team is looking for experienced Composite Materials and Process Engineers to provide Materials and Process, Research and Development support to Boeing Defense Systems development programs. We are seeking highly motivated, energetic and capable engineers at multiple levels (Associate, Mid-Level or Senior) to join the BR&T Specialty Materials and Integration team in Berkeley, Missouri.

This group is responsible for providing Materials and Process (M&P) support to Boeing Defense Systems development programs. We are also responsible for leading materials development efforts (typically non-metallic) as well as identifying, developing, and transitioning specialty materials and technologies to platforms within Boeing Defense Systems.

We are looking for someone who enjoys diversity in their work statement. The work statement will allow you to have depth in a Materials and Process focus area in Composites Materials, but projects will often require you to have more generalized Materials and Process skills including low observable materials, metals, chemical/contamination, and/or sub-systems.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Provides Materials and Process Engineering support to Development Programs
  • Reviews and approve Build to print packages (engineering drawings)
  • Reviews and approve production planning
  • Witnesses part fabrication at suppliers for compliance to engineering requirements
  • Supports the resolution of issues identified during the manufacturing process
  • Makes routine contact with customers, teaming partners, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined integrated product team, working alongside other skilled technicians, engineers, and support staff
  • Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products
  • Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
  • Promotes standardization across business activities
  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
  • Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
  • Integrates new technologies as appropriate
  • Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
  • Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes
  • Implements corrective and preventive actions
  • Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas

Note: Some domestic and international travel may be required. Typically, 10-50% or less of your time and on an as-needed basis.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 1+ years' Engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 5+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Material Science
  • Active Security Clearance
  • Experience with Boeing material & process specifications
  • Experience with the evaluation and qualification of materials, suppliers, equipment, technology and processes
  • Experience with Composite Materials, Chemical/Contamination, or Sub-Systems Materials and Process.
  • Experience with aerospace composite materials, assembly, fabrication, bonding
  • Experience with aerospace process and material specifications
  • Experience with adhesive materials (such as epoxy, urethane, polyimide, reinforcements, etc) and processes.
  • Experience with composite and elastomers and associated processing and fabrication techniques
  • Experience with composite and elastomer failure modes (structural and nonstructural) and analysis for materials, processes and parts.
  • Experience reading/interpreting engineering drawings
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level (Level 3):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range for Associate level: $77,350 - $104,650

Summary pay range for Mid-level: $95,200 - $128,800

Summary pay range for Senior level: $116,450 - $157,550
