Boeing's presence in the UK is growing through our UK High-Lift Aerodynamics Collaboration Centre (HiLACC), based at the 5 metre wind tunnel at the Cody Technology Park, Farnborough, UK. The HiLACC Flight Sciences team is a direct extension of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Flight Sciences team in Everett, WA, USA.

The role on offer is for an early to mid-career Aerodynamics Engineer supporting Flight Sciences Configuration Aerodynamics at the HiLACC. The prospective candidate will be actively involved in contributing to aerodynamics research in areas including (among others):
  • Low-speed aerodynamic testing.
  • Development and utilization of analytical predictive capabilities (such as CFD, etc).
  • Analysing high-lift aerodynamic performance.
  • Aerodynamics and sustainability research.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the aerodynamic design and analysis of flight vehicles to ensure that the vehicle meets requirements.
  • Assist the research and development of aerodynamics certification deliverables. Examples include:
    • High-lift characteristics
    • Buffet
    • Air data
    • Ice performance
    • Non-normal operations
  • Conduct and support coordination of wind tunnel testing and data analysis at local and remote facilities.
  • Define airplane configuration features and provide aerodynamics support for multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Assist development of, and utilize analytical predictive capabilities, such as CFD, and apply them to the analyses of flight vehicles to predict aerodynamic characteristics.
  • Assist in the development of geometry and analysis tools aligned with model based engineering.

Due to the nature of the role and HiLACC team, the role is primarily based onsite.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
  • A Bachelor, Master or Doctorate degree in a related engineering, maths or science field
  • 3 or more years of experience in an engineering role.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience with airplane development wind tunnel testing or configuration development studies.
  • Experience with flight testing and/or certification processes and deliverables.
  • Experience utilizing computational fluid dynamics tools.
  • Experience developing model based tools for engineering application.
  • Experiences participating in multi-disciplinary teams to achieve challenging integration goals.
  • Experience supporting in-service airplane safety issues or production support requests.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of modeling techniques (e.g., mathematical modeling, simulation, design of experiments, operations research) to analyse a system.

Typical Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and typically 2 or more years' experience in an engineering or related classification or a Master's or Doctorate degree in an engineering or related classification. UK Engineering Council accredited or US ABET accredited courses are preferred, although not required.

Relocation:
This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation to domestic location. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
