The Manager, Development - Hawaii is responsible for directly facilitating the growth of AES's pipeline of utility-scale solar and battery storage; and other renewable energy projects and offtake agreements (PPAs) in the Hawaii Market. Key focus will be to work cross-functionally to establish and implement siting strategies and originate offtake agreements in the Market.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Project Origination & Development - Hawaii, this position will work closely with the entire origination team as well as the commercial and development teams in the AES Clean Energy business. The position will enjoy extensive opportunity to support the company's growth in delivering renewable energy solutions to its customers across the Hawaii Market.

Core Competencies:

Candidates require excellent problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills, along with a positive 'solution-driven' attitude and the ability to work in a demanding team environment. They should also possess the following competencies:

  • At least five (5) years of work experience in renewable energy development, contract negotiations and/or energy procurement, with a strong preference for Hawaii Market familiarity and/or direct experience.
  • Thorough understanding of US and Hawaii energy markets, renewable generation technology including wind, solar, and battery storage technologies, energy development and offtake agreements.
  • Independent problem solver able to thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Team player with strong initiative, able to work autonomously to complete tasks within strict deadlines.
  • Professional presence and strong communication skills including negotiation skills and conflict resolution.
  • Hands-on experience leading contractual analysis and proposal submissions preferred.
  • Proven ability to independently manage project scope, schedule and budget.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject area required. MBA or another advanced degree preferred.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the sourcing, negotiation, and execution of long-term power purchase agreements with customers in the Hawaii Market to facilitate the development of renewable generation assets and energy storage.
  • Support the sourcing, negotiation, and execution of agreements with partners to facilitate the development of renewable generation assets and energy storage in alignment with customer procurement / Request for Proposal (RFP) cycles.
  • Support Origination and Hawaii Development teams' external presence, representing the company to potential offtake customers (utilities and potentially commercial & industrial offtakers.)
  • Identify customer opportunities and support the pricing, structuring and negotiation of offtake agreements, primarily Power Purchase Agreements.
  • Support all aspects of RFP proposal response process.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Development, Engineering, Project Finance, Construction, Grid Integration and Interconnection teams.
  • Prepare internal and external memos and presentations including RFP summaries
  • Keep abreast of and effectively track renewable energy opportunities and national trends impacting the future of renewable development opportunities and their competitiveness as they relate to customers.
  • Perform work with utmost integrity towards our people, contractors, customers, partners, and communities - in accordance with internal project governance policy and procedure.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $125.000 and $161.500/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
