AES Clean Energy (AES) is currently seeking an Associate Developer to assist project development efforts as a member of AES's Wind Development Team, specifically working within the Western United States. The Wind Team is responsible for internal origination, development, and commercialization of wind energy projects throughout the western United States. The successful candidate will report to the regional Director to help conduct market research, maintain project development schedules and budgets, interact with landowners and permitting authorities, and support in project development activities. This is a fast-paced role working with internal and external key stakeholders and will provide immediate exposure to all aspects of wind project development.

This position will be based in Louisville, CO at the AES Clean Energy headquarters. The role requires the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects and may include travel as needed. The successful candidate will work on a cross functional team with origination, project development, legal, finance, engineering, construction, outside consultants, landowners, customers, project stakeholders, and utility companies.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct land-, market-, regulatory- and project-specific research to assist Wind Team efforts

Identify potential wind project sites throughout the country by reviewing project maps and databases including GISInteract with and establish relationships with landowners to secure site control

Manage and maintain landowner relationships, landowner communication database, and project siting database

Manage and maintain relationships with permitting authorities and secure key discretionary permits

Manage public relations including digital and mailer campaigns, open houses, and managing community concerns

Work with internal and external subject matter experts on interconnection study processes

Assist in identifying and pursing commercial offtake opportunities

Assist in creating maps and detailed reports

Maintain project schedule and budget creation for wind development pipeline

Identify and clearly articulate project risks, opportunities and recommended action(s)

Coordinate with internal and external resources to perform project development duties to assist Wind Team as required

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in geography, environmental sciences, business, communication, construction management, civil engineering, or related field
  • 2 to 5 years of sales, engineering, project management, or development experience in renewable energy or related field!
  • Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS and Google Earth strongly preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software with strong Excel skills including document management
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Basic knowledge of wind energy fundamentals including project development, energy markets, utilities, interconnection, permitting, and contracting
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Self-motivated, very self-reliant, and capable of operating with minimum supervision
  • Strong time management skills with comfortability managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Travel might be required!

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $85.000 and $106.250/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
