Job Description:

As a long-tenured commercial credit expert, the Loan Review Examination Group Manager serves as both an Examiner-in-Charge and a personnel manager of a team of professional Commercial Examiners. The Examination Group Manager plans, leads, and ultimately reports out on large scale examinations. The role is responsible for identifying and effectively communicating complex findings to Loan Review senior management as well as Bank senior Commercial Credit and Credit Risk management. The role is also responsible for the direct management and professional development of a Team of Commercial Examiners.

Depth & Scope:

  • Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Serves as Examiner In Charge for a variety of commercial examinations across various industries and business units.
  • Plans for exams by identifying in-scope population and sample, preparing planning documentation, identifying Examiner resources and needs and appropriately addressing same, making workload assignments, and preparing and conducting Examiner kickoff meeting
  • Provides Examiners with high quality, useful, intuitive Job Aids to assist in exam completion
  • Serves as a resource throughout the examination process to quickly and clearly address Examiner questions or roadblocks
  • Reviews and provides high quality feedback regarding Examiner work to ensure accuracy, consistency of execution, and quality of conclusions
  • Monitors examination work in process to proactively escalate potential risk issues and drive timely completion of Examiner file work and ultimate report delivery to the Line of Business
  • Serves as an expert resource relative to all Policy and Regulatory matters; knows, understands, and appropriately applies commercial Regulatory guidance
  • Maintains an excellent working knowledge of Bank credit policies and procedures to measure appropriate adherence. Stays well informed on credit products and structures, industry trends and regulatory changes
  • Proactively escalates potential concerns and issues to Loan Review and Bank senior management, where appropriate, with potential solutions already derived
  • Produces high quality reports, requiring minimal revision, documenting examination findings for presentation to senior Bank management
  • Interacts professionally and productively, whether verbally or in writing, with senior Bank credit management and credit risk staff to resolve any discrepancies and disputes while maintaining appropriate third line of defense independence and Regulatory perspective
  • Liaises well with related Commercial Portfolio Monitoring staff in exam planning, execution, and delivery of results to Bank senior management
  • Trains and develops Examiners both with regard to specific examinations and relative to long-term professional development and enhancement of Loan Review department capabilities
  • Professionally completes all personnel management responsibilities including regular periodic Team meetings, quarterly performance check-ins, annual development planning, reward and recognition, performance improvement plans, as well as the design and implementation of advancement opportunities
  • Proactively provides input to the Commercial Examination Director as to strategic direction relative to exam planning and Loan Review process improvement
  • Utilizes skills and abilities to proactively improve Loan Review department process and product
  • Compiles data collected during examinations and interprets the data in narrative and analytical form to present findings to senior Loan Review and Bank management
  • Performs other related duties as required

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business or related field required. Strong preference for Finance or Accounting major or concentration, but extensive work experience can offset a different degree type
  • Minimum of 15 years Commercial credit experience in loan review, credit underwriting/analysis, credit management, credit risk management, Commercial lending or Regulatory examinations
  • Strong knowledge of Commercial lending and credit analysis with proven experience in corporate, syndicated and leveraged loans
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to present well-formed and supported opinions of process, procedure and credit risk condition to senior management
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize assignments and meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products as well as custom applications and systems

  • Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience with direct personnel responsibilities to include annual reviews, coaching, feedback sessions
