Job Description:
The Head of Investment Product is responsible for formulating strategy that is required to build out the US product suite and its ongoing product management and development. This role leads the development and implementation of strategies, plans, policies, client solutions, and, tools related to all US Wealth Management product offerings. This role uses change leadership capabilities, demonstrated product management acumen and wealth industry experience that is specific to the US market.
Depth & Scope:
- Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
- Formulates product shelf strategy and overall direction for the US Product portfolio to enable successful attraction of clients and advisors and consolidation of assets
- Responsible for defining the product line, and sourcing solutions (build or buy) including portfolio, pools, models; alternatives etc.
- Delivers successful product launches (including coordination of training, technology, other functions and ongoing product support to the field)
- Directs and coordinates the development of the US Product features and benefits, collaborating with other product groups, distribution channels, technology, marketing and other specialist areas
- Monitors the external environment (competitors product or service offerings, technology developments etc.) and provides thought-leadership to ensure the Wealth Management US offering remains industry-leading
- Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends and evolving regulatory requirements to identify new opportunities and assesses potential impacts
- Develops and manages productive internal and external relationships
- Ensures risk issues are identified, mitigated and reported per enterprise policy / guidelines and ensures appropriate escalation processes are followed
- Builds for the future and provides people leadership
- Oversees people plans and strategies to attract, motivate and retain a highly diverse, qualified and engaged human resource base to fulfill current and future business needs
- Provides strategic direction and ownership in developing, implementing, and managing U.S. Wealth's suite of investment products including investment management, brokerage, annuities (fixed, indexed, and variable) and structured products
- Manages investment management product including strategies and manager's available on the platform
- Manages solicitation policy for all products and services
- Owns key vendor relationships with Envestnet, Halo, and MoneyGuidePro
- Owns and manages TD Automated Investing, TD's robo-advisory program - including client onboarding, assets, NAG, revenue
- Directs and coordinates the development of the US Product features and benefits, collaborating with other product groups, distribution channels, technology, marketing and other specialist areas.
- Develops and manages the product development calendar and oversees the successful and seamless execution of deliverables
- Manages the identification of competitive offerings in the market and their strengths and weaknesses
- Prioritizes the presence and relative importance of key product deliverables
- Determines the methodology to quantify market analysis to look at internal measurements and product performance to determine how the product impacts the Company operations including product life cycle, quality, technical support, marketing programs and sales support
- Oversees the creation of product roadmaps to illustrate the vision for the product
- Ensures the creation of scenarios to describe market problems and illustrate why product features/requirements are necessary
- Directs market research projects and recommends methods for growing existing markets and developing opportunities for customer products and services.
- Studies, analyzes and reports on quality of service, customer attitudes, economic conditions and government controls with respect to their effect on sales of existing or proposed products and services
- Demonstrates effectiveness in creating and using conceptual frameworks to structure the develop insights into the consumer; as a result, demonstrates a high level of analytical rigor in formulation of product insights
- Delivers financial results for the product/product suite via operation of all available levers: pricing, margin, volume etc., creates and delivers business cases to achieve strategic business results (acquisition, retention, customer experience, engagement and market share)
- Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
- Ensures all products are in compliance and meet all regulatory requirements
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree is required and Post Graduate degree is an asset
- 7+ years of US product/investment industry knowledge
- Series 7, 24, 66 (or equivalent) FINRA Registrations
- Experience with the wealth industry and markets across segments, coupled with strong product management experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of the design, development, implementation and profitability of product development and marketing in a financial/banking environment required
- Strong understanding of and experience with industry-leading investment platform vendors (i.e., Envestnet, Pershing, etc.)
- History of making an impact, developing and executing on strategies, and delivering superior results in both the short and long term
- Proven ability in leveraging deep subject matter expertise to develop and deploy a vision and align others to that vision
- Be known for providing creative thought leadership while also listening and engaging others to provide input in the shaping of that vision
- Powerful communicator who engages colleagues, business partners, external stakeholders, and employees
- Skillful communication (written and verbal), negotiation and partnership skills to balance stakeholder input but remain objective to reach the right outcome - ability to stay resilient under pressure
- Demonstrated relationship building skills, with a superior ability to make things happen through the use of positive influence
- Robust organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities
