Linux Developer L3 Support

Job Description

The Team

SUSE L3 is a globally distributed team of highly skilled Linux developers who evaluate, analyze, and fix software defects reported by SUSE customers and partners.

We are responsible for coordinating the defect-resolution process in our products. Ranging from core kernel bugs to issues in various cloud solution technologies, from applications to web servers to storage solutions and everything in between that connects all these technologies together.

About You

You consider yourself an inquisitive mind, thirsty for knowledge and always looking for ways to grow & expand that knowledge and mentor others.

You understand the art of troubleshooting and like resolving different and often complex scenarios in Linux and open-source space.

You will work in cross-functional teams on reported bugs and complex technical problems, either on your own or in close cooperation with other excellent Linux engineers.

Key responsibilities:

As an L3 Linux developer, you will be responsible for:
  • Evaluating and reproducing reported problem scenarios and code defects
  • Coordination of, and active involvement in, the bug-fixing process
  • Technical analysis of issues and bugs in Linux-based software products
  • Fixing code defects and publishing patches
  • Contributing to the future development of the software infrastructure driving the daily work of the team
Required skills

You like to solve puzzles and sweat your brains. Complex problems do not scare you away and make you even more determined to resolve them. You take ownership of a problem and work with your colleagues to resolve it. As such you are already equipped with the following:
  • Experience coding and debugging C programs
  • Hands-on experience working with Linux
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP and other networking concepts and technologies
  • Good spoken and written English
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Linux debugging tools and techniques
  • Strong communication, analytical and organizational skills
  • Hands-on experience with containerization
  • Ability and willingness to quickly learn new technologies
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
Nice to have skills:

We consider it to be a big plus in your application when you already have some of the following as your skills:
  • Knowledge of one or more scripting languages (Perl, Python, Bash, ...)
  • Knowledge of other programming languages (C++, assembler, ...)
  • Programmer's knowledge of the Linux Kernel
  • Knowledge of RPM and packaging
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as XEN, KVM, QEMU, Libvirt, ...
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Azure, Google Cloud, and Hyper-V, ...
  • You are already an open-source package maintainer and contribute to the community
  • Good understanding of hardware architecture & concepts and their relation to the Operating System
