Kernel CIFS developer

Job Description

SUSE Samba/CIFS team is looking for a CIFS Kernel Developer. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the cifs.ko kernel filesystem.

The cifs.ko module implements the SMB protocol to expose remote filesystems to the local users.

The role also involves participation in the upstream community, bug fixing, backporting of features and their maintenance in SUSE products.

The Samba/CIFS team is a part of the SUSE Linux System Group, which is responsible for delivering and supporting SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and related products.

Key responsibilities:

Developing new features for the cifs.ko kernel module

Developing patches for security issues and other bugs

Support of our customers and partners

Developing and improving necessary tooling

Participation in the maintenance of SUSE products
Collaboration with other teams at SUSE (kernel teams, QA, L3 support, documentation)
Participation in open source communities

Location:
Fully remote, flexible location

Required Knowledge and Skills (What we expect):
Excellent knowledge of the C programming language
Good knowledge of open source community principles
Good knowledge of Linux debugging tools (debuggers, protocol dissectors)
Accuracy, thoroughness, consideration, self-reliance

Recommended Knowledge and Skills (What would be nice to have):
Knowledge of userspace toolchain (compiler, linker, libraries)
Knowledge of a scripting language
Knowledge of the Linux Kernel development model and practices
